The rotation
Provincial detachments run compressed twelve-hour cycles more often than not, frequently with a long block of days off built in. The pattern is set by the collective agreement, which means it is stable and worth saving once.
Distance
A provincial patrol area can be several hundred kilometres across, and a paid duty assignment at the far end of it is a different proposition from one in town. The kilometres you drive in your own vehicle can be recorded against the job, so the year adds itself up.
Court
Court in a large patrol area often means travelling to a courthouse a long way from your detachment. Court sits in its own category with the details in the notes, and the address is saved so you can navigate to it from the calendar.
Paid duty
Every assignment is saved under the organiser who arranged it, with the hours, the rate, the kilometres and whether the money has arrived. At the end of the year that is a record rather than a guess.
