Why the night count is the one people stop at
A rotation with a fixed night tour does not give you some nights. It gives you all of them. Twenty-five years of it is every single shift worked in the dark, and seeing that as one number tends to land differently from knowing it in the abstract.
It is also the clearest argument for choosing a rotation deliberately rather than inheriting one.
What this is not
Not a service record. Leave, light duty, promotions, transfers, overtime and the years you spent on a different squad all change the real figures. This is what the pattern alone comes to, which is useful for comparing two rotations and useless for anything official.
The arithmetic, roughly
A rotation working four days on and four off puts you on duty about half the days of the year — around 180 shifts. Over twenty-five years that is somewhere near 4,500 shifts. A pattern with a fixed night tour makes every one of those a night.
Each rotation page on this site carries its cycle and its average week, which is enough to work out the rest by hand if you would rather.
