Court, details and squads: what a general shift app has no concept of

The four things

Court. A subpoena is not a shift. It lands on a day off, at a courthouse you may not have been to, and it is paid under its own rule.

Details. A different employer, a different rate, invoiced through somebody else and paid weeks later.

Comp time. Hours banked rather than paid, spent later, tracked by nobody but you — and to be straight about it, not by this app either.

Squads. The crew you bid decides every weekend of your year, and a general calendar has no concept that other squads exist.

Why they do not have these

Not an oversight. Supershift's own listing names nurses, doctors, paramedics, police, firefighters, factory and retail staff and drivers — every feature has to make sense for all of them at once, and none of the four above makes sense for a nurse.

What BlueShifts does with them

The paid duty work is recorded by employer with the pay and the kilometres. The courts, jails and hospitals are in the directory with their addresses and gate codes. The rotation pages name the departments that work each cycle. And where this app does not do something — comp time is the clear one — it says so rather than implying otherwise.
