Supershift for police officers

What it does well

It handles the rotations by name — 4-on-4-off, DuPont, Pitman, Panama, Continental, 2-2-3 and custom cycles — and applies them two years ahead. The widgets, the watch complications and the per-shift alarms are genuinely good, and no police-specific app matches its polish.

Who it is built for

Its own listing names nurses, doctors, paramedics, police officers, firefighters, factory and retail staff, and bus, train and tram drivers. That is not a criticism — it is the business it is in. It does mean every feature has to make sense for all of them at once.

The four things it was not asked to hold

• Court. Not a shift. Lands on days off. Paid under its own rule.
• Comp time. Banked rather than paid, and tracked by nobody but you.
• Details. A different employer, a different rate, paid weeks later or not at all.
• Squads. The crew you bid decides your weekends for a year.

Being straight about the swap

Supershift has an Apple Watch app, a Mac version and thirteen languages. BlueShifts has none of those and is not trying to. What it has is the police half of the week.

BlueShifts starts in the same place — a repeating rotation drawn on a month — and then covers the part of the job a general shift calendar was never asked to hold: the paid duty jobs, by employer, with the hours, the pay, the kilometres and whether the money has actually arrived.
