What CopApp is
CopApp is a shift calendar for people who work a repeating rotation. It has been on the App Store since 2012, it is made by MyProjectX, and a lot of officers have used it for years. Its own listing describes it as a simple calendar app for repeating shift schedules, where you set your rotation days once and the calendar fills in from there.
It carries a 4.9 rating from about 2,900 reviews. That is a strong record and it is worth saying plainly: officers like it.
What CopApp does well
- It is simple. You set the rotation, you see your days on and off, and that is the app.
- Templates and a 4-digit setup code mean you can be running in under a minute.
- Notes and color highlights on any day.
- Its support has a reputation for answering fast, which shows up again and again in the reviews.
If all you need is to see which days you work, CopApp does that job and there is no reason to switch.
Where BlueShifts is different
BlueShifts starts from the same place — a repeating rotation on a calendar — and then keeps going into the part of the job that costs you money when it is not written down.
- Off-duty work. Every job is saved under the employer who hired you, with the hours, the pay, the miles and whether you have been paid.
- A report you can hand over. Any date range exports as a PDF with every job listed and the year totalled.
- The information you need on the road. Court, jail and hospital addresses, gate codes, tow companies, and vehicle maintenance. A document library of reference PDFs — Miranda, SFST, HAZMAT, VIN and CVE — is in development.
- Holidays, including ones you add yourself. Your agency's holidays sit on the same calendar as your rotation.
- Backward as well as forward. The rotation fills in months you have already worked, not just the ones ahead.
Your shifts can also go into a Google Calendar — your own, or someone else's who does not have the app — and their events come back to you. Your own Google and Apple events show inside BlueShifts as well.
One thing worth knowing before you choose: the CopApp listing itself points people to ShiftWave, the newer app from the same developer. The version shown on the CopApp listing is from March 2021. If you are picking between the two of theirs, that is worth a look.
