The season is the rotation

Some agencies run a published pattern; many do not. What decides the year is the calendar of seasons: opening weekends, the firearms season, the summer peak on the water, holiday weekends, and the quiet stretches in between when training and court get scheduled.

If your agency does run a fixed cycle — a 5-2 5-3, 4/10 or twelve-hour pattern — you save it once and it fills itself in. If it does not, you build the year from the days you actually work.

On call is not a day off

A week of call-out duty looks like a week off on a roster and does not feel like one. Give it its own category and its own color, and the difference shows up on the month at a glance — and in the record at the end of the year.

The miles are the story

A patrol area measured in counties produces mileage that no municipal officer would recognize. Where you drive your own vehicle, the app records the miles and the rate per mile and works out the total. Where you run a state vehicle and the agency charges you for personal use, that goes in as a per-mile figure too.

They are two different things and the app keeps them apart. Neither applies to every officer — your agency's policy decides which one is yours.

Court in three counties

A district that spans county lines means courts that span county lines, often an hour apart. Every courthouse goes in the directory once, with the address and the contact, and every court date goes on the calendar with an alert — because a summons for a district you have not worked in six weeks is the one that gets missed.

The truck is an office

Boat ramps, back gates, checkpoints, the numbers for the tow operator who will actually come out that far. That is exactly what the directory holds, and it opens with no signal — which, out there, is most of the time.
