Long rotations

State agencies commonly run multi-week rotations rather than a repeating weekly pattern — a six-week 4/10 cycle that moves through days and nights is a good example, and the pattern in your bid may not repeat for a month or more.

That is exactly the kind of schedule that is miserable to work out on paper and simple for an app: save the cycle once, tell it which day yours starts on, and it fills the calendar out in both directions. When you bid a new rotation, you save that one too.

Court in more than one county

A trooper's court dates are scattered across the counties in the patrol area, sometimes several different courthouses in the same month, usually on days off. Court sits in its own category with its own address, and the address list keeps the courthouses you actually appear in rather than a single default.

The miles

Nobody in policing drives like a trooper does. Between patrol area, court appearances across counties, range and training days at a central facility, and any off-duty work, the mileage picture is bigger and more spread out than a city officer's.

Miles go on the job they belong to, with the rate you set, and total for any period you choose — the year, a quarter, or the stretch one employer is asking about.

Off-duty details for a trooper often mean longer drives and fewer, larger jobs: highway construction, utility and pipeline work, event traffic, escorts. Fewer employers, bigger jobs, longer waits to get paid — which is why paid-versus-unpaid tracking matters more, not less.
