About Centennial Lakes
Centennial Lakes Police Department serves three Anoka County cities — Circle Pines, Centerville and Lexington — under a joint powers agreement, and is overseen not by any one council but by a governing board made up of the mayor and a council member from each city. The arrangement has deep roots: a joint force was first discussed between Lexington and Circle Pines in 1965 and adopted in 1975, governed then as now by a commission rather than by the councils directly. Before that, Circle Pines ran a one-man department with councilmen taking turns on night duty, and Lexington's first officer in 1954 was paid ten dollars a month plus a share of the fines.
