Chino Police Department entry pay
What this agency pays a new officer to start, and how that compares with the rest of the country.
Entry pay onlyEvery salary here is what an officer is paid on day one, out of the academy — base pay on a 40-hour week, with no overtime, shift differential, specialty or education pay counted. Nobody stays on it.
Chino Police Department starts at $100,005 a year — about $48.08 an hour on a 2,080-hour year, before overtime. That is $33,320 above the median of the 2,288 agencies on this list, and $31,865 above the median for municipal agencies.
Cost of livingPrices in California run about 11% above the national average, so this is worth roughly $90,322 somewhere at average prices — $9,683 less than the headline figure. Most of that is utilities, at 159 against a national average of 100, where goods are 106. Based on state-wide price levels, because this agency is not tied to a single metro area, from the U.S. Bureau of Economic Analysis, 2024. The salary above is what the employer publishes; this line is our arithmetic on it, and nothing on this site is ranked on it.
How big the department isChino Police Department reported 122 sworn officers and 56 civilian staff to the FBI for 2025. That is 1.3 officers per 1,000 residents, over a population of 94,769.A rate is only meaningful for a city department, where the population served is the city’s own. Reporting to the FBI is voluntary, so a count can reflect a partial return as easily as a small agency, and the FBI asks that agencies not be compared on staffing. What Chino says about itself
The Chino Police Department provides for the public safety response needs of the community through services that support the Department's commitment to Organizational Excellence.
What Chino does
The Chino Police Department serves the city of Chino, California, in San Bernardino County. Its sworn officers are represented by the Chino Police Officers Association, whose salary schedule the City publishes as its CalPERS publicly available pay schedule and which carries no recruit or trainee classification beneath Police Officer. The 2025-2027 agreement sets sworn pay by market survey, holding the classifications at no lower than third in total compensation against the comparison agencies and adjusting retroactively to 1 July each year.
Where the figure comes from
Checked 21 September 2026. City of Chino, AFSCME / CPOA Salary Schedule effective 07/01/2025 — Police Officer, class 4220, Step A: hourly $48.08, monthly $8,333.75, annual $100,005.00. — open the source document
$100,005.00 is the City's own annual figure for Step A of class 4220 and no arithmetic has been applied to it - the schedule prints the same rate three ways, $48.08 an hour, $8,333.75 a month and $100,005.00 a year, and the annual is the City's own. CHINO PRICES NO CADET CLASS AT ALL: the CPOA salary schedule carries no Police Recruit and no Police Officer Trainee classification anywhere on it, so Step A of Police Officer is unambiguously the sworn entry rate and there is no training rate to reject. THE FIGURE IS DATED BY THE SCHEDULE ITSELF, effective 1 July 2025 with a 3 per cent cost of living adjustment. AND IT WILL MOVE EVERY JULY BY FORMULA, WHICH IS WORTH KNOWING BEFORE IT GOES STALE: the 2025-2027 CPOA agreement sets pay by survey rather than by fixed increase - the City agrees to maintain sworn classifications at no lower than the number three ranking in total compensation, adjusted retroactively to 1 July each year - so this row should be re-read each July.
Entry-level base salary only. Overtime, bonuses, education incentives, shift
differentials, locality pay and lateral rates are excluded, so most officers earn more
than this.
