Clarkstown Police Department entry pay

What this agency pays a new officer to start, and how that compares with the rest of the country.

Entry pay onlyEvery salary here is what an officer is paid on day one, out of the academy — base pay on a 40-hour week, with no overtime, shift differential, specialty or education pay counted. Nobody stays on it.

Clarkstown Police Department starts at $64,783 a year — about $31.15 an hour on a 2,080-hour year, before overtime. That is $1,902 below the median of the 2,288 agencies on this list, and $3,357 below the median for municipal agencies.

Cost of livingPrices in New York run about 8% above the national average, so this is worth roughly $60,028 somewhere at average prices — $4,755 less than the headline figure. Most of that is utilities, at 134 against a national average of 100, where goods are 107. Based on state-wide price levels, because this agency is not tied to a single metro area, from the U.S. Bureau of Economic Analysis, 2024. The salary above is what the employer publishes; this line is our arithmetic on it, and nothing on this site is ranked on it.

Where the figure comes from

Checked 20 September 2026. Town of Clarkstown Town Board, Resolutions 61, 63, 64 and 65-2026 (13 January 2026), appointing temporary Police Officers while attending the Police Academy — open the source document
Effective 30 January 2026, the current annual salary for a new officer while attending the Police Academy, as set in four identical Town Board appointments. *** FLAGGED 20 SEPTEMBER 2026 - THIS ROW IS CARRYING AN ACADEMY RATE. *** The note above says so in its own words: $64,783 is the annual salary for a new officer WHILE ATTENDING THE POLICE ACADEMY, set in four identical Town Board appointments effective 30 January 2026. Under the standing rule the figure should be the sworn officer's step on completing the academy, not the rate during it - the same correction applied this pass to West Virginia State Police, Knoxville and Bernalillo County. NOTHING HAS BEEN SUBSTITUTED because the post-academy step has not been found: the Department's own recruitment page lists benefits, longevity and night differential but no figures at all, and the Town's Personnel Downloads page - which is where a PBA salary schedule would sit - renders its file list only in JavaScript and returns an empty browser notice to a plain fetch. NEXT DOCUMENTS, IN ORDER: (1) the Clarkstown PBA agreement on that Personnel Downloads page, WHICH NEEDS A BROWSER; (2) a Town Board resolution adopting the police salary schedule, on the same iqm2 document system the current figure came from; (3) the Town's adopted budget. A five-year PBA contract has been publicly reported, so a dated schedule exists.
Entry-level base salary only. Overtime, bonuses, education incentives, shift differentials, locality pay and lateral rates are excluded, so most officers earn more than this.
