Collierville Police Department entry pay
What this agency pays a new officer to start, and how that compares with the rest of the country.
Entry pay onlyEvery salary here is what an officer is paid on day one, out of the academy — base pay on a 40-hour week, with no overtime, shift differential, specialty or education pay counted. Nobody stays on it.
Collierville Police Department starts at $60,000 a year — about $28.85 an hour on a 2,080-hour year, before overtime. That is $6,685 below the median of the 2,288 agencies on this list, and $8,140 below the median for municipal agencies.
Cost of livingPrices in Tennessee run about 8% below the national average, so this goes about as far as $65,310 would somewhere at average prices — $5,310 more than the headline figure. Most of that is utilities, at 72 against a national average of 100, where goods are 96. Based on state-wide price levels, because this agency is not tied to a single metro area, from the U.S. Bureau of Economic Analysis, 2024. The salary above is what the employer publishes; this line is our arithmetic on it, and nothing on this site is ranked on it.
How big the department isCollierville Police Department reported 115 sworn officers and 39 civilian staff to the FBI for 2025. That is 2.2 officers per 1,000 residents, over a population of 52,107.A rate is only meaningful for a city department, where the population served is the city’s own. Reporting to the FBI is voluntary, so a count can reflect a partial return as easily as a small agency, and the FBI asks that agencies not be compared on staffing. What Collierville does
The Collierville Police Department serves the town of Collierville, Tennessee, a suburb on the eastern edge of Shelby County outside Memphis. The FBI's law enforcement employment tables put it at 115 sworn officers serving about 52,000 people. New police officers begin with a twelve-week Basic Police School and then three to four months of field training with experienced training officers; candidates who already hold POST-approved Basic Training School certification may move straight into field training. The Town runs a separate lateral pay programme that places certified officers by years of service.
Where the figure comes from
Checked 20 September 2026. Town of Collierville, Police — Career Opportunities: "The current salary range is $60,000 - $74,341" and "Effective July 1, 2025: The salary range will increase to $60,000 - $78,997." — open the source document
$60,000 is the bottom of the Town's own published Police Officer range and no arithmetic has been applied to it. The bottom is the same number before and after the July 2025 revision - the Town raised the top from $74,341 to $78,997 and left the entry where it was - so the figure is unaffected by which of the two ranges is current. THE NON-LATERAL TEST IS SETTLED ON THE SAME PAGE: the Town runs a separate Lateral Pay Program for certified officers, priced at $65,735 for one to three years of experience, $68,604 for three to five and $71,472 for five or more (rising to $68,266, $73,044 and $76,696 from 1 July 2025), and says competitive salaries reflect prior experience, providing higher starting pay based on years of service. $60,000 is therefore the rate for a candidate with none. Trainee class: NOT PRICED - new police officers begin with a twelve-week Basic Police School followed by three to four months of field training, and those holding POST-approved Basic Training School certification may move directly into field training; no separate academy wage is named. $74,341 and $78,997 are the tops of the range and are ceilings, not steps. STALE BY ITS OWN WORDING: the page speaks of 1 July 2025 in the future tense, so it was written before that date and has not been revised in more than a year. Entry-level base salary only. Overtime, bonuses, education incentives, shift
differentials, locality pay and lateral rates are excluded, so most officers earn more
than this.
