The Georgetown Police Department polices Georgetown, the seat of Scott County in central Kentucky, with 55 authorized police officer posts and 6 school resource officers alongside sergeants, lieutenants, a captain, an assistant chief and the chief. Full-time specialist units cover traffic, criminal investigations, school resource officers, community relations, a recovery support team and K-9; part-time assignments include the special response team, hostage negotiations, recruit training officers, traffic collision reconstruction, bike and drone units, firearms, defensive tactics and driving instructors, mounted patrol, honour guard, the alcohol compliance and education section and the sex offender registry unit. Officers serve two years in patrol before applying for a full-time specialist unit.

Read 8 September 2026 from the City's own adopted pay classification ordinance, passed 24 June 2024 under KRS 83A.070(2), which lists Police Officer at Public Safety Grade 307 and sets that grade at a minimum of $55,345, a midpoint of $70,559 and a maximum of $85,773. The grade minimum is the bottom of the officer scale and therefore the hiring rate; the ordinance states that the full step plan behind each grade is held in the City Clerk-Treasurer's office and that the City may adjust the steps by cost-of-living review, so the published grade minimum is what is recorded here. The same ordinance authorises 55 Police Officer posts and 6 School Resource Officer posts, both at Grade 307. Certification is not required to start: the department's recruitment page states that all non-certified officers attend the Department of Criminal Justice Training academy at Richmond and are paid as full-time employees at an hourly rate for each 40-hour week while there.
