LSU Health Shreveport University Police Department polices a health sciences campus and hospital complex, with its office on the ground floor of the Biomedical Research Institute building. Its officers are sworn and commissioned with the full range of police powers, empowered to arrest for felonies and misdemeanours, and handle crime reports and investigations, medical and fire emergencies, traffic collisions, parking violations and enforcement of alcohol, controlled substance and weapons law. The department works in two divisions, Patrol and Special Services, within a wider Public Safety department that also takes in guards securing the remote parking lots and communications officers monitoring the fire and security alarm systems. It provides cover 24 hours a day to patients, visitors, staff, faculty and students at all local facilities, runs a night-time escort service to any campus parking lot, and publishes the Clery Act annual security report.
