Lynnwood Police Department entry pay

What this agency pays a new officer to start, and how that compares with the rest of the country.

Entry pay onlyEvery salary here is what an officer is paid on day one, out of the academy — base pay on a 40-hour week, with no overtime, shift differential, specialty or education pay counted. Nobody stays on it.

Lynnwood Police Department starts at $106,371 a year — about $51.14 an hour on a 2,080-hour year, before overtime. That is $39,686 above the median of the 2,288 agencies on this list, and $38,231 above the median for municipal agencies.

Cost of livingPrices in Washington run about 7% above the national average, so this is worth roughly $99,400 somewhere at average prices — $6,971 less than the headline figure. Most of that is rent, at 126 against a national average of 100, where goods are 104. Based on state-wide price levels, because this agency is not tied to a single metro area, from the U.S. Bureau of Economic Analysis, 2024. The salary above is what the employer publishes; this line is our arithmetic on it, and nothing on this site is ranked on it.

How big the department isLynnwood Police Department reported 71 sworn officers and 42 civilian staff to the FBI for 2025. That is 1.7 officers per 1,000 residents, over a population of 42,399.A rate is only meaningful for a city department, where the population served is the city’s own. Reporting to the FBI is voluntary, so a count can reflect a partial return as easily as a small agency, and the FBI asks that agencies not be compared on staffing. Where the figure comes from

Checked 20 September 2026. City of Lynnwood 2026 Full Time Salary Schedule, council approved, Lynnwood Police Officers Step A — open the source document
Step A of the Police Officers grade is $51.14 an hour on the 2026 schedule revised 26 May 2026. Article V of the guild agreement fixes the year at two thousand eighty (2,080) hours, which is the basis used here. The separate Police Officer Trainee class is paid the same Step A rate. The department's recruiting page still advertises a band opening at $88,961, which is an earlier year - the council-approved schedule is the figure.
Entry-level base salary only. Overtime, bonuses, education incentives, shift differentials, locality pay and lateral rates are excluded, so most officers earn more than this.
