About Marathon County
Marathon County Sheriff's Office polices Wisconsin's largest county by land area — more than 1,500 square miles, bigger than Rhode Island — from Wausau, with nearly 200 staff across five divisions: administration, communications, corrections, investigations and patrol. Its communications division handles emergency calls and dispatches for close to 80 emergency services agencies across the county. Deputies patrol some 3,270 miles of federal, state and local roadway, provide full-time courthouse security, and run law enforcement patrols on the county's ATV and snowmobile trails, lakes, reservoirs, streams and rivers under state DNR grant programmes.
