SUPERSEDES the $81,000 first taken from mauipolice.com/benefits, which was a rounded figure in recruitment copy. CROSS-CHECK, AND IT IS STRONG: the identical $83,808 appears independently at the Kaua'i Police Department and the Hawai'i Police Department. All three counties sit in bargaining unit 12 (SHOPO), the statewide unit, so one rate across the islands is what the contract predicts — these are not duplicated rows. ON THE POSTING'S AGE: job number reads 2021 - P.O. I with an opening date of 12 Feb 2021, because Maui runs Police Officer I as a continuous recruitment. The RATE is current, not 2021-stale — the 2021 SHOPO entry rate was far lower (Honolulu recruits were near $68,900 then), and $83,808 matches the two other counties' 2026 figures exactly. No prior service is required: MPD's lateral route is separate and requires five years' prior sworn service, so Police Officer I is the no-prior-service hire.
