New Iberia Police Department entry pay
What this agency pays a new officer to start, and how that compares with the rest of the country.
Entry pay onlyEvery salary here is what an officer is paid on day one, out of the academy — base pay on a 40-hour week, with no overtime, shift differential, specialty or education pay counted. Nobody stays on it.
New Iberia Police Department starts at $41,496 a year — about $19.95 an hour on a 2,080-hour year, before overtime. That is $25,189 below the median of the 2,288 agencies on this list, and $26,644 below the median for municipal agencies.
Cost of livingPrices in Louisiana run about 12% below the national average, so this goes about as far as $47,044 would somewhere at average prices — $5,548 more than the headline figure. Most of that is rent, at 63 against a national average of 100, where goods are 94. Based on state-wide price levels, because this agency is not tied to a single metro area, from the U.S. Bureau of Economic Analysis, 2024. The salary above is what the employer publishes; this line is our arithmetic on it, and nothing on this site is ranked on it.
How big the department isNew Iberia Police Department reported 50 sworn officers and 14 civilian staff to the FBI for 2025. That is 1.9 officers per 1,000 residents, over a population of 26,474.A rate is only meaningful for a city department, where the population served is the city’s own. Reporting to the FBI is voluntary, so a count can reflect a partial return as easily as a small agency, and the FBI asks that agencies not be compared on staffing. What New Iberia says about itself
The once dissolved Police Department is now fully staffed and providing impactful service and protection to city residents. We are ready day and night to serve our community.
What New Iberia does
The New Iberia Police Department polices the city of New Iberia, the parish seat of Iberia Parish in the heart of Acadiana, about 21 miles south-east of Lafayette. The department is unusually young for its size: it began patrolling on 1 July 2018, after city residents voted in 2017 to create a funding source and re-establish a municipal force, having relied for nearly a decade on a contract with the Iberia Parish Sheriff's Office. It runs its own records division at 457 East Main Street, its own communications room with a computer-aided dispatch system, and a transportation unit alongside patrol. Officers work twelve-hour shifts that rotate quarterly between days and nights with alternating weekends off, are paid biweekly, and belong to the Municipal Police Employees Retirement System. Its work cycle is set by Louisiana statute rather than by the city alone: R.S. 33:2213 names New Iberia alongside Bossier City and Abbeville and prints the fortnight officers work.
New Iberia’s rotation, in BlueShifts
Two employer sources agree on this roster. Louisiana Revised Statute 33:2213(C) names the department and prints the fortnight: "The Bossier City Police Department, the New Iberia Police Department, and the Abbeville Police Department shall work a two-week cycle, thirty-six hours the first week and forty-eight hours the second week. During the first week, the officers shall work Sunday, be off Monday and Tuesday, and work Wednesday and Thursday. During the second week, they shall work Monday and Tuesday, be off Wednesday and Thursday, and work Friday and Saturday." The Department's own Join Our Team page adds the tour on top: "Police Officers are paid biweekly and work 12-hour rotating quarterly between day and night shifts with alternating weekends off and some holidays."

The agency publishes the shift length but not a named cycle. These are the 12-hour rotations departments most often build on it: Pitman, 4 on, 4 off, DuPont, Panama, 3-4-4-3.
Seven twelve-hour days a fortnight, alternate weekends, and the whole thing flips between days and nights every three months - so the calendar you memorised in January is wrong by April. BlueShifts holds the fourteen-day cycle and the quarterly changeover together, and the off-duty security details the department offers sit on the same screen as the roster.

Where the figure comes from
Checked 1 September 2026. New Iberia Police Department, Join Our Team: "The annual salary for an entry-level Police Officer is $41,496.00" — open the source document
Class: entry-level Police Officer. The Department's own Join Our Team page states it plainly: "The annual salary for an entry-level Police Officer is $41,496.00. P.O.S.T. Certified applicants, who are hired, with at least one (1) year of service will receive $48,696.00 annually, inclusive of State Supplemental Pay at $600.00 per month." The ENTRY-LEVEL figure is the one published, and the ladder is what makes it unambiguous: an entry-level officer receives state supplemental pay only AFTER one year of service and P.O.S.T. certification, so $41,496 is city pay alone for a person with no prior service, while the $48,696 figure is a certified hire's total including $7,200 a year of state money. Trainee class: NO. Prior sworn service is NOT required - the basic requirements are 21 years old, US citizen, high school diploma or equivalent, physically able, background check, driver's license and an honourable discharge if applicable. On top: 2 per cent longevity a year, a 2 per cent cost of living increase every five years, overtime details and off-duty security details, and MPERS retirement earning 3 1/3 per cent a year - 66 2/3 per cent at twenty years, 83 1/3 at twenty-five. Department's own Join Our Team page, checked 1 September 2026.
Entry-level base salary only. Overtime, bonuses, education incentives, shift
differentials, locality pay and lateral rates are excluded, so most officers earn more
than this.
