Pittsburg Police Department entry pay

What this agency pays a new officer to start, and how that compares with the rest of the country.

Entry pay onlyEvery salary here is what an officer is paid on day one, out of the academy — base pay on a 40-hour week, with no overtime, shift differential, specialty or education pay counted. Nobody stays on it.

Pittsburg Police Department starts at $113,568 a year — about $54.60 an hour on a 2,080-hour year, before overtime. That is $46,883 above the median of the 2,288 agencies on this list, and $45,428 above the median for municipal agencies.

Cost of livingPrices in California run about 11% above the national average, so this is worth roughly $102,572 somewhere at average prices — $10,996 less than the headline figure. Most of that is utilities, at 159 against a national average of 100, where goods are 106. Based on state-wide price levels, because this agency is not tied to a single metro area, from the U.S. Bureau of Economic Analysis, 2024. The salary above is what the employer publishes; this line is our arithmetic on it, and nothing on this site is ranked on it.

How big the department isPittsburg Police Department reported 84 sworn officers and 19 civilian staff to the FBI for 2025. That is 1.1 officers per 1,000 residents, over a population of 77,328.A rate is only meaningful for a city department, where the population served is the city’s own. Reporting to the FBI is voluntary, so a count can reflect a partial return as easily as a small agency, and the FBI asks that agencies not be compared on staffing. What Pittsburg says about itself

The Patrol Division operates 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. The City of Pittsburg is broken into beats for deployment purposes, and officers are assigned to a specific beat for a minimum of four months.

What Pittsburg does

The Pittsburg Police Department serves the city of Pittsburg, California, on the Sacramento river delta in Contra Costa County. Its officers are represented by the Pittsburg Police Officers' Association under an agreement running to June 2028, and the City divides the city into beats to which officers are assigned for a minimum of four months at a time. The Patrol Division operates twenty-four hours a day, and the City prices an unrepresented flat-rate Police Trainee class apart from the sworn range.

Where the figure comes from

Checked 21 September 2026. City of Pittsburg Monthly Salary Schedule, Council approved 20 July 2026 — "Police Officer 6000 7/5/2026 9,464 9,937 10,435 10,956 11,504 12,080 POA" (step 1 of a six-step monthly range). — open the source document
$9,464 a month is the City's own step 1 figure on the Council-approved schedule and $113,568.00 is that rate times twelve, which is exact rather than an estimate. THE TRAINEE CLASS IS ON THE SAME SCHEDULE AND IS NOT THE FIGURE: "Police Trainee 6009 8/18/2025 38.00 38.00 38.00 Unrepresented", a single flat hourly rate in the seasonal and extra-help block, unrepresented rather than in the police association. Note the class is titled Police TRAINEE, not Police Officer Trainee, which is why a search for the usual wording finds nothing. A DELIBERATE EXCLUSION, because the City publishes it in the same row family: the previous schedule carries a "Top Step w/Incentives 14,925" column, which is a ceiling AND a bundle and is not base. THE APPENDIX AND THE ADOPTED SCHEDULE DIFFER BY ONE DOLLAR AND BOTH ARE SHOWN RATHER THAN ONE BEING PICKED SILENTLY: the association agreement's Appendix A prints 9,465 for the July 2026 step A while the adopted schedule prints 9,464. This row publishes the ADOPTED SCHEDULE'S figure, because that is the operative document; the chart is built from the agreement's appendix, which is the only place all three dated tables sit together. THE FIGURE IS DATED BY THE SCHEDULE ITSELF, 5 July 2026.
Entry-level base salary only. Overtime, bonuses, education incentives, shift differentials, locality pay and lateral rates are excluded, so most officers earn more than this.
