Asotin County Sheriff's Office entry pay
What this agency pays a new officer to start, and how that compares with the rest of the country.
Entry pay onlyEvery salary here is what an officer is paid on day one, out of the academy — base pay on a 40-hour week, with no overtime, shift differential, specialty or education pay counted. Nobody stays on it.
Asotin County Sheriff's Office starts at $68,536 a year — about $32.95 an hour on a 2,080-hour year, before overtime. That is $1,851 above the median of the 2,288 agencies on this list, and $4,976 above the median for county agencies.
Cost of livingPrices in Washington run about 7% above the national average, so this is worth roughly $64,045 somewhere at average prices — $4,491 less than the headline figure. Most of that is rent, at 126 against a national average of 100, where goods are 104. Based on state-wide price levels, because this agency is not tied to a single metro area, from the U.S. Bureau of Economic Analysis, 2024. The salary above is what the employer publishes; this line is our arithmetic on it, and nothing on this site is ranked on it.
How big the department isAsotin County Sheriff's Office reported 13 sworn officers and 26 civilian staff to the FBI for 2025.No rate is shown: this agency does not police a single population the FBI publishes a figure for. Reporting to the FBI is voluntary, so a count can reflect a partial return as easily as a small agency, and the FBI asks that agencies not be compared on staffing. What Asotin County says about itself
To make our community a safe and secure place to work and live through professional, equal, and thorough, law enforcement.
What Asotin County does
The Asotin County Sheriff's Office polices the small southeastern corner of Washington where the Snake River meets Idaho, covering Asotin, Clarkston and the Blue Mountain country from the county seat at Asotin. It runs patrol, civil process, code enforcement, concealed pistol licensing, records and the county jail, and its deputies rotate through day, swing and graveyard shifts every four months.
Where the figure comes from
Checked 22 September 2026. Asotin County / Teamsters Local 1476-S agreement for Commissioned Deputies, 1 January 2023 - 31 December 2025, Appendix "A", block headed EFFECTIVE - January 1, 2025: the row "TRAINEE/DEPUTY 1st year" reads $32.95 under "2025 First 6 Months" and $33.60 under "2025 Thereafter". — open the source document
$68,536 is $32.95 an hour x 2,080; Article 13.1 says "Employees shall be paid on an hourly basis", so the annual figure is mine, not the County's. THE CLASS IS WRITTEN "TRAINEE/DEPUTY 1st year" AS ONE LINE AND THAT IS WHY IT QUALIFIES. Asotin does not price a trainee separately from a first-year deputy - they share a single row - and the rows above it are seniority tiers, not ranks: 3rd Class (2nd Year), 2nd Class (3rd Year), 1st Class (4+ Years), then Corporal and Sergeant. Article 20.1 puts a new employee on probation for one calendar year "excluding time spent at the academy", so the academy sits outside the clock rather than at a lower wage. EACH YEAR IS SPLIT AT SIX MONTHS and the hire rate is the first half: $32.95 for the first six months, $33.60 thereafter, a 2% step. Excluded from the figure: the thereafter rate and all three seniority classes, which reach $36.76; Corporal at $38.14 and Sergeant at $43.52; the step-plan longevity in Article 13.5, which starts at $75 a month after six months and reaches $325 after 228 months; and the 3% assignment premium in Article 13.2 for FTO, K-9, detective, school resource officer, marine deputy, drug task force and SWAT. THE AGREEMENT HAS EXPIRED AND NO SUCCESSOR IS POSTED. It ran to 31 December 2025 and the 1 January 2025 column is the last one in it, so this is a rate that is at least nine months stale. The County does publish newer agreements when it has them - the Jail Guild's runs 2024-2026 and is on the same Human Resources page - so the deputies' successor is missing rather than withheld.
