Brick Township Police Department entry pay

What this agency pays a new officer to start, and how that compares with the rest of the country.

Entry pay onlyEvery salary here is what an officer is paid on day one, out of the academy — base pay on a 40-hour week, with no overtime, shift differential, specialty or education pay counted. Nobody stays on it.

Brick Township Police Department starts at $50,712 a year — about $24.38 an hour on a 2,080-hour year, before overtime. That is $15,973 below the median of the 2,288 agencies on this list, and $17,428 below the median for municipal agencies.

Cost of livingPrices in New Jersey run about 9% above the national average, so this is worth roughly $46,608 somewhere at average prices — $4,104 less than the headline figure. Most of that is rent, at 134 against a national average of 100, where goods are 107. Based on state-wide price levels, because this agency is not tied to a single metro area, from the U.S. Bureau of Economic Analysis, 2024. The salary above is what the employer publishes; this line is our arithmetic on it, and nothing on this site is ranked on it.

How big the department isBrick Township Police Department reported 144 sworn officers and 39 civilian staff to the FBI for 2025. That is 1.9 officers per 1,000 residents, over a population of 77,471.A rate is only meaningful for a city department, where the population served is the city’s own. Reporting to the FBI is voluntary, so a count can reflect a partial return as easily as a small agency, and the FBI asks that agencies not be compared on staffing. What Brick Township says about itself

The mission of the Brick Township Police Department is to protect life and property and to ensure the safety of the people we serve.

What Brick Township does

The Brick Township Police Department serves Brick Township, New Jersey, on the Barnegat Bay in Ocean County. Its officers are represented by PBA Local 230 under an agreement running from 2023 to the end of 2026 which prices an Academy Step beneath a nine-step Police Officer guide and raises the whole schedule by 6, 5, 4 and 3 per cent across its four years. Patrol works four consecutive days preceded and followed by two days off, on shifts of eight hours fifteen minutes on second and third watch and nine hours fifteen minutes on first.

Where the figure comes from

Checked 21 September 2026. NJ PERC-filed agreement, Township of Brick and PBA Local 230, 1/1/2023 to 12/31/2026 — Schedule I Police Officers, 2026: "Step 1 - $50,712". — open the source document
$50,712 is the guide's own Step 1 figure for 2026 and no arithmetic has been applied to it. THE CONTRACT RUNS TO 31 DECEMBER 2026, so this is a LIVE agreement and the 2026 column is the rate now in force - one of only two New Jersey rows on this roster that can say so. THE ACADEMY STEP IS PRICED SEPARATELY AND IS NOT THE FIGURE: "Academy Step - $45,098" sits immediately below Step 1 on the same annual schedule. THE GATE IS BY LABEL AND NOT BY SENTENCE, AND THAT IS STATED RATHER THAN GLOSSED: the row is titled Academy Step and sits beneath Step 1, but the salary article never defines what ends it - it says only "Each employee shall qualify for the step increment on the date of the anniversary of his or her employment". The label is enough to bar the lower rate under the 19 September instruction; it is not enough to call the gate graduation rather than time, so no claim is made either way. NO ROLL-IN: the salary article carries no holiday-pay or premium-hours language of the kind that disqualified New Brunswick and Clifton. Excluded from the figure: longevity and every increment outside the guide. THE FIGURE IS DATED BY THE GUIDE ITSELF.
Entry-level base salary only. Overtime, bonuses, education incentives, shift differentials, locality pay and lateral rates are excluded, so most officers earn more than this.
