Dublin Police Department entry pay

What this agency pays a new officer to start, and how that compares with the rest of the country.

Entry pay onlyEvery salary here is what an officer is paid on day one, out of the academy — base pay on a 40-hour week, with no overtime, shift differential, specialty or education pay counted. Nobody stays on it.

Dublin Police Department starts at $70,347 a year — about $33.82 an hour on a 2,080-hour year, before overtime. That is $3,662 above the median of the 2,288 agencies on this list, and $2,207 above the median for municipal agencies.

Cost of livingPrices in Ohio run about 7% below the national average, so this goes about as far as $75,826 would somewhere at average prices — $5,479 more than the headline figure. Most of that is rent, at 73 against a national average of 100, where goods are 94. Based on state-wide price levels, because this agency is not tied to a single metro area, from the U.S. Bureau of Economic Analysis, 2024. The salary above is what the employer publishes; this line is our arithmetic on it, and nothing on this site is ranked on it.

How big the department isDublin Police Department reported 74 sworn officers and 45 civilian staff to the FBI for 2025. That is 1.5 officers per 1,000 residents, over a population of 49,484.A rate is only meaningful for a city department, where the population served is the city’s own. Reporting to the FBI is voluntary, so a count can reflect a partial return as easily as a small agency, and the FBI asks that agencies not be compared on staffing. What Dublin does

The Dublin Police Department serves the city of Dublin, Ohio, a Columbus suburb in Franklin County, from the Justice Center at 6565 Commerce Parkway, which is open around the clock. It is led by Chief Justin Páez, with Deputy Chiefs Greg Lattanzi over the Support Services Bureau and Nick Tabernik over the Operations Bureau, and states its core values as Professionalism, Integrity, Respect and Commitment. Officers work eight-hour shifts on a forty-hour week with the same days off each week, bidding for shift assignments once a year. The Department runs three hiring pathways - examination, application and resume, and lateral - and publishes its whole wage structure from the training step to Lieutenant.

Where the figure comes from

Checked 20 September 2026. City of Dublin, Apply Now: Dublin Police — wage structure: "Training Step $70,346.86 / $33.82" — open the source document
$70,346.86 is the City's own annual figure and no arithmetic has been applied to it; the hourly equivalent, $33.82, is printed beside it. The City publishes the whole wage structure: Training Step $70,346.86, Step 1 $76,241.34, Step 2 $87,496.13, Step 3 $98,756.98, Step 4 $113,597.24, then Sergeant $122,969.07 and Lieutenant $132,340.91. THE TRAINING STEP IS THE ENTRY FIGURE AND THE REASON IS THE ADVANCEMENT RULE, NOT THE LABEL: the City states officers 'will advance to the next highest step in the wage structure after one year of continuous service at the preceding step', and applies that one-year rule uniformly across every step including the first. So the Training Step is not an academy-only wage that ends at graduation - it runs a full year, covering the academy and the rest of the first year - and Step 1 is a twelve-month step. That is the same reading applied to Smyrna GA, and the opposite of Hilliard, Knoxville and West Virginia State Police, where the higher rate lands on finishing training. Prior sworn service is handled by a separate Lateral Pathway, which the City lists alongside its Examination and Application pathways and which does not require the physical fitness assessment. New hires must complete a state-certified peace officer basic training programme either before appointment or immediately upon it. THE TABLE IS LABELLED 2025, not 2026, which is the weakness here - NEXT DOCUMENT: the City of Dublin 2026 wage ordinance. NAME TRAP: Dublin, Ohio is a Columbus suburb; there are also Dublins in California and Georgia with their own departments. SHIFT PATTERN PUBLISHED: eight-hour shifts on a forty-hour week with the same days off each week, bid annually.
Entry-level base salary only. Overtime, bonuses, education incentives, shift differentials, locality pay and lateral rates are excluded, so most officers earn more than this.
