Hall County Sheriff's Office entry pay

What this agency pays a new officer to start, and how that compares with the rest of the country.

Entry pay onlyEvery salary here is what an officer is paid on day one, out of the academy — base pay on a 40-hour week, with no overtime, shift differential, specialty or education pay counted. Nobody stays on it.

Hall County Sheriff's Office starts at $63,365 a year — about $30.46 an hour on a 2,080-hour year, before overtime. That is $3,320 below the median of the 2,288 agencies on this list, and $195 below the median for county agencies.

Cost of livingPrices in Georgia run about 4% below the national average, so this goes about as far as $65,804 would somewhere at average prices — $2,439 more than the headline figure. Most of that is rent, at 89 against a national average of 100, where goods are 99. Based on state-wide price levels, because this agency is not tied to a single metro area, from the U.S. Bureau of Economic Analysis, 2024. The salary above is what the employer publishes; this line is our arithmetic on it, and nothing on this site is ranked on it.

How big the department isHall County Sheriff's Office reported 283 sworn officers and 159 civilian staff to the FBI for 2025.No rate is shown: this agency does not police a single population the FBI publishes a figure for. Reporting to the FBI is voluntary, so a count can reflect a partial return as easily as a small agency, and the FBI asks that agencies not be compared on staffing. What Hall County says about itself

The Hall County Sheriff's Office provides full law enforcement services to a population of more than 184,000 citizens living across 394 square miles.

What Hall County does

The Hall County Sheriff's Office polices north-east Georgia from Gainesville, at the head of Lake Lanier, serving more than 184,000 people across 394 square miles. It is built as four bureaus. The Enforcement Bureau, under Chief Deputy Kevin Head, holds Uniform Patrol and Criminal Investigations; the Administrative Bureau, under Major Chris Matthews, holds Court Services, the Jail and Warrants/Specialized Services. The jail is the largest division in the office, with 200 officers and clerks. Patrol deputies work 12.25-hour tours on a fortnightly two-two-three cycle, days or nights, and the office runs specialised teams including SWAT, a dive team and an honor guard, each carrying its own pay incentive. Sheriff Gerald Couch leads it.

This cycle has its own page: how it works, and how to build it.

Two-two-three means every other weekend is a three-day break and the rest of the fortnight moves against everyone else's week - the part that is impossible to hold in your head when someone asks you about a date next month. At Hall the tours are 12.25 hours, so the month's hours do not fall where a twelve-hour reader expects either. BlueShifts builds the cycle once and fills every month ahead, so your own days are there to look at before you commit to anything.

Where the figure comes from

Checked 22 September 2026. Hall County Sheriff's Office, Benefits & Pay, under Starting Pay: "Patrol Division Deputy Starting pay - $63,365 annually. Duties are the same as Deputy (above). Qualified deputies who are hired into the Uniform Patrol Division receive the annual starting pay incentive reflected above." The same list gives "Deputy Starting pay - $57,135 annually" and "Jailer Starting pay - $51,762 annually". — open the source document
$63,365 is printed as an annual by the Sheriff's Office. THREE STARTING PAYS ARE PUBLISHED SIDE BY SIDE AND THE CHOICE BETWEEN THEM IS THE WHOLE OF THIS NOTE. Jailer at $51,762 is out at once: the office's own hiring FAQ classes the jailer as the "non-certified entry level" post and the deputy as "certified", so the jailer is not a sworn patrol class. That leaves Deputy at $57,135 and Patrol Division Deputy at $63,365, and the office says plainly that the second is the first with an assignment premium folded in - "Duties are the same as Deputy (above). Qualified deputies who are hired into the Uniform Patrol Division receive the annual starting pay incentive reflected above." THE PATROL FIGURE IS THE ONE TAKEN, for two reasons. It is published as a STARTING PAY for a named class, in the same list and the same form as the other two, not as an hourly add-on of the kind excluded elsewhere - Hall's own hourly extras, the bilingual, specialised-unit and night-shift differentials, are listed separately under Benefits and are excluded here as usual. And it is the figure that matches the rest of the row: the rotation recorded against this agency is the Uniform Patrol rotation, and pricing a patrol roster with a court-services salary would describe nobody. $57,135 IS THE FIGURE FOR A DEPUTY WHO IS NOT IN PATROL - court services, warrants, civil process - and a reader looking at the same page will see it, so it is stated here rather than buried. NEITHER FIGURE IS DATED ANYWHERE. The office also warns that "Officers with experience or training could start at a higher rate", which is the lateral side and does not move the floor: these are the starting rates before any credit for prior service.
Entry-level base salary only. Overtime, bonuses, education incentives, shift differentials, locality pay and lateral rates are excluded, so most officers earn more than this.

How this level compares

Where Hall County sits is partly about the agency and partly about which level of policing it belongs to. The three levels do not pay the same.
