What Hermosa Beach does
Hermosa Beach Police Department covers a mile and a half of Los Angeles County beachfront and the downtown behind it, from a station in the Civic Center that is open around the clock. It works in three divisions: Operations, holding patrol, the traffic bureau's motor officers, a narcotics and explosives K-9 unit, the reserve unit and the jail; Investigative and Administrative Services, whose detective bureau handles roughly 4,000 cases a year; and Community Services, covering parking enforcement, animal control, neighbourhood watch and house-check programmes for seniors. Its stated mission is for Hermosa Beach to be the safest little beach city.
