La Habra Police Department entry pay

What this agency pays a new officer to start, and how that compares with the rest of the country.

Entry pay onlyEvery salary here is what an officer is paid on day one, out of the academy — base pay on a 40-hour week, with no overtime, shift differential, specialty or education pay counted. Nobody stays on it.

La Habra Police Department starts at $103,671 a year — about $49.84 an hour on a 2,080-hour year, before overtime. That is $36,987 above the median of the 2,288 agencies on this list, and $35,531 above the median for municipal agencies.

Cost of livingPrices in California run about 11% above the national average, so this is worth roughly $93,634 somewhere at average prices — $10,038 less than the headline figure. Most of that is utilities, at 159 against a national average of 100, where goods are 106. Based on state-wide price levels, because this agency is not tied to a single metro area, from the U.S. Bureau of Economic Analysis, 2024. The salary above is what the employer publishes; this line is our arithmetic on it, and nothing on this site is ranked on it.

How big the department isLa Habra Police Department reported 72 sworn officers and 27 civilian staff to the FBI for 2025. That is 1.2 officers per 1,000 residents, over a population of 60,994.A rate is only meaningful for a city department, where the population served is the city’s own. Reporting to the FBI is voluntary, so a count can reflect a partial return as easily as a small agency, and the FBI asks that agencies not be compared on staffing. What La Habra says about itself

Since 1925, the La Habra Police Department has been dedicated to providing the residents of this community with a safe environment in which to live and work.

What La Habra does

The La Habra Police Department has served the city of La Habra, California, in north Orange County, since 1925. Its patrol officers work a three-day twelve-and-a-half-hour week with one additional ten-hour day a month, are assigned to specific areas for at least four months at a time, and hold a minimum field strength of four officers, a field supervisor and a watch commander on every shift. The City's sworn salary schedule carries no recruit or trainee classification beneath Police Officer.

Where the figure comes from

Checked 21 September 2026. City of La Habra, Police - Sworn salary schedule, Exhibit "B" to the Police Sworn memorandum of understanding 2025-2029 — POLICE OFFICER, range P-40, STEP 1 "START RATE": $49.842 hourly effective July 11, 2026. — open the source document
$49.842 an hour is the City's own START RATE for range P-40 and IS THE ONLY FORM THE CITY PUBLISHES IT IN. $103,671.36 is that rate at 2,080 hours, the same annualisation this roster applies to every hourly-only source, named here rather than hidden. THE CURRENT TABLE IS THE JULY 2026 ONE, NOT THE FIRST IN THE DOCUMENT: the schedule carries seven dated tables from July 2025 to January 2029, and on 21 September 2026 the rate in force is the one effective 11 July 2026. Taking the document's opening table, $45.643 from 12 July 2025, would have published a figure superseded fourteen months ago. LA HABRA PRICES NO SWORN RECRUIT CLASS: the sworn schedule carries exactly four classifications on every dated table - Police Officer P-40, Police Corporal P-70, Police Sergeant P-80 and Police Lieutenant P-90 - and no recruit, trainee or academy row anywhere. The only adjacent class is a PART-TIME "POLICE CADET 901 $20.000" an hour on the part-time schedule, which is a part-time cadet and not an academy recruit, so it is not a like-for-like training tier and is not treated as one. The eight-step range tops out at $60.993 and that is a ceiling. THE FIGURE IS DATED BY THE SCHEDULE ITSELF.
Entry-level base salary only. Overtime, bonuses, education incentives, shift differentials, locality pay and lateral rates are excluded, so most officers earn more than this.
