Lafayette County Sheriff's Office entry pay

What this agency pays a new officer to start, and how that compares with the rest of the country.

Entry pay onlyEvery salary here is what an officer is paid on day one, out of the academy — base pay on a 40-hour week, with no overtime, shift differential, specialty or education pay counted. Nobody stays on it.

Lafayette County Sheriff's Office starts at $55,750 a year — about $26.80 an hour on a 2,080-hour year, before overtime. That is $10,935 below the median of the 2,288 agencies on this list, and $7,810 below the median for county agencies.

Cost of livingPrices in Florida run about 3% above the national average, so this is worth roughly $53,910 somewhere at average prices — $1,840 less than the headline figure. Most of that is rent, at 122 against a national average of 100, where goods are 98. Based on state-wide price levels, because this agency is not tied to a single metro area, from the U.S. Bureau of Economic Analysis, 2024. The salary above is what the employer publishes; this line is our arithmetic on it, and nothing on this site is ranked on it.

How big the department isLafayette County Sheriff's Office reported 11 sworn officers and 1 civilian staff to the FBI for 2025.No rate is shown: this agency does not police a single population the FBI publishes a figure for. Reporting to the FBI is voluntary, so a count can reflect a partial return as easily as a small agency, and the FBI asks that agencies not be compared on staffing. What Lafayette County says about itself

The Lafayette County Sheriff's Office operates year round, 24 hours per day, 7 days per week. The Sheriff's Office will respond 24 hours a day, seven days a week, to any request for police assistance. We always have Deputies on the road. All requests for police service are prioritized based on the seriousness of the incident and the potential for injury or damage to property.

What Lafayette County does

The Lafayette County Sheriff's Office is responsible for law enforcement across the 548 square miles of Lafayette County in north Florida, working from Mayo, the county seat, and serving Day, Cooks Hammock and Hatchbend. It runs uniformed patrol, criminal investigations, court services, corrections and a 911 dispatch center, and its published motto is that integrity, respect, service and hometown values still matter. Sheriff Brian Lamb, a Florida State University criminology graduate, began his career with the Office before serving with the Florida Highway Patrol.
