What Lighthouse Point does
The Lighthouse Point Police Department is the municipal force for the City of Lighthouse Point, a canal-front city in northern Broward County. It is made up of about 50 personnel and a growing volunteer staff, is accredited through the Commission for Florida Law Enforcement Accreditation, and runs a community policing unit whose officers are assigned to geographic areas of the city, a field training programme for new recruits, a check-in programme for residents who are elderly, ill or living alone, and a Nixle community notification system. It was one of the agencies honoured with the IACP and Motorola Webber Seavey Award for Quality in Law Enforcement in 2012.
