Marana Police Department entry pay
What this agency pays a new officer to start, and how that compares with the rest of the country.
Entry pay onlyEvery salary here is what an officer is paid on day one, out of the academy — base pay on a 40-hour week, with no overtime, shift differential, specialty or education pay counted. Nobody stays on it.
Marana Police Department starts at $65,704 a year — about $31.59 an hour on a 2,080-hour year, before overtime. That is $2,686 below the median of the 1,681 agencies on this list, and $5,560 below the median for municipal agencies.
How big the department isMarana Police Department reported 116 sworn officers and 30 civilian staff to the FBI for 2025. That is 1.8 officers per 1,000 residents, over a population of 65,094.A rate is only meaningful for a city department, where the population served is the city’s own. Reporting to the FBI is voluntary, so a count can reflect a partial return as easily as a small agency, and the FBI asks that agencies not be compared on staffing. Unparalleled Service, Unwavering Protection, Uncompromised Integrity.
What Marana does
Marana Police Department serves a fast-growing town of some 52,000 spread across 120 square miles north-west of Tucson, straddling the Pima and Pinal county line. It works to a community-oriented policing philosophy under the motto of unparalleled service, unwavering protection and uncompromised integrity, organising patrol into geographic districts within its patrol division. Alongside emergency response it provides crime prevention advice and employment fingerprinting, runs a citizens' police academy covering the components of local law enforcement, and takes community help through a Volunteers in Police Service programme.
Shifts at Marana
Marana's general orders set out two kinds of work beyond the roster: outside employment, meaning non-law-enforcement work for another employer, and special duty, meaning police services provided to a private employer under an agreement with the Town. Both need approval.
Special duty and outside employment are paid differently and approved separately, and they are easy to lose track of over a year. BlueShifts records off-duty jobs beside your shifts, and its off-duty statistical calculator shows what each is actually earning you.
