What Miccosukee says about itself
Miccosukee Police Department was established in 1976. Each Miccosukee Police officer, upon completing all of the State of Florida Law Enforcement Officer certification requirements, is commissioned as a United States Dept. of Interior, Bureau of Indian Affairs, Special Deputy Officer. This commission allows the police officer to enforce all of the U.S. Title 18 crimes on the Indian Reservation.
What Miccosukee does
The Miccosukee Police Department is the law enforcement agency of the Miccosukee Tribe of Indians of Florida, established in 1976 and marking its fiftieth anniversary in August 2026. It works from a main station on the Tamiami Trail reservation about 20 miles west of Krome Avenue, a substation at the Miccosukee Casino and Resort and an Alley substation off I-75 in Broward County, and fields a color guard, a dive team, a K-9 unit, a crime scene unit, a general investigations unit, a SWAT team and school resource officers. Its Fish and Wildlife Law Enforcement Unit patrols nearly 300,000 acres of tribal land across six counties by airboat, helicopter and ATV to enforce federal, state and tribal hunting and fishing law.
