North Myrtle Beach Police Department entry pay

What this agency pays a new officer to start, and how that compares with the rest of the country.

Entry pay onlyEvery salary here is what an officer is paid on day one, out of the academy — base pay on a 40-hour week, with no overtime, shift differential, specialty or education pay counted. Nobody stays on it.

North Myrtle Beach Police Department starts at $62,000 a year — about $29.81 an hour on a 2,080-hour year, before overtime. That is $4,685 below the median of the 2,288 agencies on this list, and $6,140 below the median for municipal agencies.

Cost of livingPrices in Myrtle Beach-Conway-North Myrtle Beach, SC run about 6% below the national average, so this goes about as far as $66,210 would somewhere at average prices — $4,210 more than the headline figure. The salary above is what the employer publishes; this line is our arithmetic on it, and nothing on this site is ranked on it.

How big the department isNorth Myrtle Beach Police Department reported 98 sworn officers and 41 civilian staff to the FBI for 2025. That is 4.6 officers per 1,000 residents, over a population of 21,295.A rate is only meaningful for a city department, where the population served is the city’s own. Reporting to the FBI is voluntary, so a count can reflect a partial return as easily as a small agency, and the FBI asks that agencies not be compared on staffing. Where the figure comes from

Checked 20 September 2026. North Myrtle Beach Department of Public Safety, Pay & Salary: "Police Officer: $62,000 upon completion of SCCJA Certification and Field Training Program" — open the source document
CORRECTED 20 September 2026, UP from $60,000. The row had been carrying the ACADEMY rate. The Department publishes both in the same list: 'Police Officer Recruit: $60,000 (While in training @ SCCJA non-certified)' and 'Police Officer: $62,000 upon completion of SCCJA Certification and Field Training Program'. The first is a named RECRUIT rate paid while at the South Carolina Criminal Justice Academy and is barred; the second is the sworn Police Officer rate a candidate with no prior service reaches on completing the academy and field training, and is the measure - the same reading already applied to Rutland City, South Burlington, Brandon, Harrisonburg and Myrtle Beach. The Department prices no separate lateral rate, so prior sworn service is not required for $62,000. NOTE: North Myrtle Beach runs a combined Department of Public Safety; the same page prices dispatch at $52,000 to $63,000 and detention officers at $52,000 to $69,000, neither of which is this row. NAME TRAP: North Myrtle Beach and Myrtle Beach are separate cities with separate departments, and Myrtle Beach's own officer rate is $66,747.20.
Entry-level base salary only. Overtime, bonuses, education incentives, shift differentials, locality pay and lateral rates are excluded, so most officers earn more than this.
