Okanogan County Sheriff's Office entry pay

What this agency pays a new officer to start, and how that compares with the rest of the country.

Entry pay onlyEvery salary here is what an officer is paid on day one, out of the academy — base pay on a 40-hour week, with no overtime, shift differential, specialty or education pay counted. Nobody stays on it.

Okanogan County Sheriff's Office starts at $72,779 a year — about $34.99 an hour on a 2,080-hour year, before overtime. That is $6,094 above the median of the 2,288 agencies on this list, and $9,219 above the median for county agencies.

Cost of livingPrices in Washington run about 7% above the national average, so this is worth roughly $68,010 somewhere at average prices — $4,770 less than the headline figure. Most of that is rent, at 126 against a national average of 100, where goods are 104. Based on state-wide price levels, because this agency is not tied to a single metro area, from the U.S. Bureau of Economic Analysis, 2024. The salary above is what the employer publishes; this line is our arithmetic on it, and nothing on this site is ranked on it.

How big the department isOkanogan County Sheriff's Office reported 27 sworn officers and 28 civilian staff to the FBI for 2025.No rate is shown: this agency does not police a single population the FBI publishes a figure for. Reporting to the FBI is voluntary, so a count can reflect a partial return as easily as a small agency, and the FBI asks that agencies not be compared on staffing. What Okanogan County says about itself

The mission of the Okanogan County Sheriff's Office is to provide high-quality, professional, and ethical law enforcement services to all the communities and citizens we serve.

What Okanogan County does

The Okanogan County Sheriff's Office polices the largest county in Washington, some 5,300 square miles of the north-central Cascades and Okanogan highlands running up to the Canadian border, from the county seat at Okanogan. Its Patrol Division is built as four squads of four deputies under a patrol sergeant each, with an investigative section of three detectives, and covers three districts - south from Wells Dam to Washington Pass, the populous Mid Valley around Omak and Okanogan, and north from Riverside to the border.

Where the figure comes from

Checked 22 September 2026. Okanogan County Commissioned Salary Chart effective January 6, 2026 - the "Field Deputy" row reads Step 1 6064.92 with 34.9886 printed beneath it, across five steps to 7483.74 at Step 5. — open the source document
$72,779.04 is the County's monthly Step 1 figure of $6,064.92 multiplied by twelve. THE CHART PRINTS TWO RATES PER STEP AND THEY DISAGREE BY $2.75 A YEAR: the upper line is monthly and the lower is hourly, so Step 1 is $6,064.92 a month and $34.9886 an hour, but $34.9886 x 2,080 is $72,776.29 while $6,064.92 x 12 is $72,779.04. The monthly line is the headline figure on the chart and is the one used here; the gap is rounding in the hourly conversion, not two different rates. FIELD DEPUTY STEP 1 IS THE BOTTOM OF THE COMMISSIONED CHART. The chart carries three classes only - Field Deputy, Sergeant and Patrol Lieutenant - and nothing sits beneath Field Deputy: no recruit, cadet, trainee or probationary line. Non-sworn staff are priced on a separate Non-Commissioned Salary Chart, which is how the County keeps the two apart. Excluded from the figure: Steps 2 to 5, which run to $7,483.74 a month; the longevity premiums, which start at 1% after six years and reach 8% after thirty-four; and both supervisory classes. THE CONTRACT BEHIND THE CHART COULD NOT BE READ: the County's 2026 Teamsters Patrol Deputies and Sergeants agreement is published as a forty-page scanned image with no text layer, so it was not ground through; the chart is the County's own document and stands on its own.
Entry-level base salary only. Overtime, bonuses, education incentives, shift differentials, locality pay and lateral rates are excluded, so most officers earn more than this.
