Orange City Police Department entry pay

What this agency pays a new officer to start, and how that compares with the rest of the country.

Entry pay onlyEvery salary here is what an officer is paid on day one, out of the academy — base pay on a 40-hour week, with no overtime, shift differential, specialty or education pay counted. Nobody stays on it.

Orange City Police Department starts at $53,664 a year — about $25.80 an hour on a 2,080-hour year, before overtime. That is $13,021 below the median of the 2,288 agencies on this list, and $14,476 below the median for municipal agencies.

Cost of livingPrices in Florida run about 3% above the national average, so this is worth roughly $51,892 somewhere at average prices — $1,772 less than the headline figure. Most of that is rent, at 122 against a national average of 100, where goods are 98. Based on state-wide price levels, because this agency is not tied to a single metro area, from the U.S. Bureau of Economic Analysis, 2024. The salary above is what the employer publishes; this line is our arithmetic on it, and nothing on this site is ranked on it.

How big the department isOrange City Police Department reported 23 sworn officers and 7 civilian staff to the FBI for 2025. That is 1.4 officers per 1,000 residents, over a population of 15,959.A rate is only meaningful for a city department, where the population served is the city’s own. Reporting to the FBI is voluntary, so a count can reflect a partial return as easily as a small agency, and the FBI asks that agencies not be compared on staffing. What Orange City does

The Orange City Police Department is the municipal force for the City of Orange City in west Volusia County, covering 7.5 square miles and answering more than 33,000 calls for service a year. Its patrol division, the largest in the department, fields 16 full-time officers across four shifts, each led by a sergeant, and covers the city around the clock every day of the year alongside traffic enforcement and education work. It has been led since January 2026 by Chief Jerome Miller, previously Deputy Chief at Apopka.

This cycle has its own page: how it works, and how to build it.

Fourteen 12-hour shifts a month on a 2-2-3 means the days you are off move every week and never land on the same weekday twice running. BlueShifts builds the cycle once and fills in every month ahead, so the take-home car, the court date and the second job sit on the same calendar as the roster.
