The Supreme Court of the United States Police is the federal force that protects the Court, the Justices, its employees and its visitors, drawing its authority from 40 U.S.C. 6121. Its officers enforce federal and District of Columbia law as well as the regulations for the Supreme Court building and grounds, which are prescribed by the Marshal and approved by the Chief Justice. Beyond patrol and courtroom security the department polices demonstrations at the building and protects the Justices domestically and abroad, and it runs specialist units including dignitary protection, protective intelligence, K-9 and a nuclear, biological and chemical team.
