What United States Secret Service — Uniformed Division does
The Uniformed Division is the Secret Service's uniformed police force, protecting the facilities and venues secured for the agency's protectees — among them the White House complex, the Vice President's residence and foreign missions in Washington. Officers are appointed on the LE pay schedule rather than the General Schedule, and train for 13 weeks at the Federal Law Enforcement Training Center followed by 16 weeks of specialised training at the James J. Rowley Training Center in Laurel, Maryland. Appointment is initially an excepted one of three years and 120 days, after which an officer converts to career status.
