Taylor County Sheriff's Office entry pay
What this agency pays a new officer to start, and how that compares with the rest of the country.
Entry pay onlyEvery salary here is what an officer is paid on day one, out of the academy — base pay on a 40-hour week, with no overtime, shift differential, specialty or education pay counted. Nobody stays on it.
Taylor County Sheriff's Office starts at $45,000 a year — about $21.63 an hour on a 2,080-hour year, before overtime. That is $21,685 below the median of the 2,288 agencies on this list, and $18,560 below the median for county agencies.
Cost of livingPrices in Florida run about 3% above the national average, so this is worth roughly $43,514 somewhere at average prices — $1,486 less than the headline figure. Most of that is rent, at 122 against a national average of 100, where goods are 98. Based on state-wide price levels, because this agency is not tied to a single metro area, from the U.S. Bureau of Economic Analysis, 2024. The salary above is what the employer publishes; this line is our arithmetic on it, and nothing on this site is ranked on it.
How big the department isTaylor County Sheriff's Office reported 36 sworn officers and 18 civilian staff to the FBI for 2025.No rate is shown: this agency does not police a single population the FBI publishes a figure for. Reporting to the FBI is voluntary, so a count can reflect a partial return as easily as a small agency, and the FBI asks that agencies not be compared on staffing. What Taylor County says about itself
From the first day on the job, I've stressed the importance of treating all members of our community with respect, being transparent and accountable to the individuals that the Taylor County Sheriff's Office serves. This office provides the citizens of Taylor County with a high level of customer service and a level of professionalism that gives me great honor to serve as your Sheriff. We understand that we are stewards of the public's trust and that is a responsibility that I take very seriously. From our patrol deputies to our detention officers, we are committed to providing the very best in law enforcement services.
What Taylor County does
The Taylor County Sheriff's Office serves Taylor County on Florida's Big Bend coast from Perry, the county seat, running patrol, detention and dispatch. The county took the direct hit from Hurricanes Idalia and Helene in 2023 and 2024, which devastated its coastal and inland communities, so emergency response is a larger part of this office's year than its size suggests.
