White Plains Police Department is the Police Bureau of the City of White Plains Department of Public Safety, a combined organisation that also holds the Fire Bureau, headed by a Commissioner of Public Safety and based on South Lexington Avenue in this Westchester County city north of New York. The Police Bureau works through divisions each under a captain as commander with a lieutenant as executive officer: Patrol, Criminal Investigations, Special Operations, Traffic, and Administration and Support Services. An Auxiliary Police Division of volunteers assists the Bureau of Police. The city sits alongside a dense patchwork of Westchester agencies, including the Westchester County Department of Public Safety, which runs the county police academy and forensic laboratory nearby.
