Allen Police Department serves a Collin County city north of Dallas and is a recognised Texas Law Enforcement Best Practices agency, seeking to work proactively against crime trends through enforcement, public education and crime prevention. Its career paths run through patrol, criminal investigations, bike patrol, traffic and motor units, SWAT, narcotics, K-9, drones, a robot unit, school resource officers, field training and community relations, alongside non-sworn roles including detention officers, public safety telecommunicators, animal control officers and shelter attendants. The department runs the city jail at its headquarters on West McDermott Drive, operates Project H.O.M.E. for missing and endangered persons, and is building a new headquarters due to open in early 2027.
