Hurst Police Department entry pay

What this agency pays a new officer to start, and how that compares with the rest of the country.

Entry pay onlyEvery salary here is what an officer is paid on day one, out of the academy — base pay on a 40-hour week, with no overtime, shift differential, specialty or education pay counted. Nobody stays on it.

Hurst Police Department starts at $87,048 a year — about $41.85 an hour on a 2,080-hour year, before overtime. That is $18,658 above the median of the 1,681 agencies on this list, and $15,784 above the median for municipal agencies.

Cost of livingPrices in Texas run about 3% below the national average, so this goes about as far as $89,688 would somewhere at average prices — $2,640 more than the headline figure. That average hides a wide spread: utilities at 88, where goods are 98. Based on state-wide price levels, because this agency is not tied to a single metro area, from the U.S. Bureau of Economic Analysis, 2024. The salary above is what the employer publishes; this line is our arithmetic on it, and nothing on this site is ranked on it.

About Hurst

Hurst Police Department was established in the 1950s and has been led by only seven chiefs since, a CALEA-accredited agency of around 75 sworn officers covering patrol, traffic, criminal investigations and community services in Northeast Tarrant County. Officers conduct commercial motor vehicle inspections alongside ordinary patrol work, and the department runs a free summer PALS camp for local children

Where the figure comes from

Checked 19 August 2026. City of Hurst, Police Careers page (Hurst Police Department) — open the source document
The city states plainly: the Police Officer base starting salary is $87,048 and the base post-probation salary is $95,326. ENTRY IS NOT IN DOUBT HERE - the civil service examination notice on the same page requires only that an applicant be LICENSABLE by the Texas Commission on Law Enforcement, not already licensed, and it waives the 30 college hours for anyone with two years as a sworn peace officer or an honourable military discharge. No prior service is required at any point.
Entry-level base salary only. Overtime, bonuses, education incentives, shift differentials, locality pay and lateral rates are excluded, so most officers earn more than this.

How this level compares

Where Hurst sits is partly about the agency and partly about which level of policing it belongs to. The three levels do not pay the same.
