Baldwin County Sheriff's Office entry pay
What this agency pays a new officer to start, and how that compares with the rest of the country.
Entry pay onlyEvery salary here is what an officer is paid on day one, out of the academy — base pay on a 40-hour week, with no overtime, shift differential, specialty or education pay counted. Nobody stays on it.
Baldwin County Sheriff's Office starts at $47,987 a year — about $23.07 an hour on a 2,080-hour year, before overtime. That is $18,697 below the median of the 2,288 agencies on this list, and $15,572 below the median for county agencies.
Cost of livingPrices in Georgia run about 4% below the national average, so this goes about as far as $49,835 would somewhere at average prices — $1,847 more than the headline figure. Most of that is rent, at 89 against a national average of 100, where goods are 99. Based on state-wide price levels, because this agency is not tied to a single metro area, from the U.S. Bureau of Economic Analysis, 2024. The salary above is what the employer publishes; this line is our arithmetic on it, and nothing on this site is ranked on it.
How big the department isBaldwin County Sheriff's Office reported 57 sworn officers and 66 civilian staff to the FBI for 2025.No rate is shown: this agency does not police a single population the FBI publishes a figure for. Reporting to the FBI is voluntary, so a count can reflect a partial return as easily as a small agency, and the FBI asks that agencies not be compared on staffing. What Baldwin County says about itself
We are a professional law enforcement organization that prides itself on delivering the highest level of quality service possible to more than 44,000 residents.
What Baldwin County does
The Baldwin County Sheriff's Office polices the middle-Georgia county around Milledgeville, the state's antebellum capital, serving more than 44,000 residents with 146 employees. It is a full-service agency: uniform patrol, the jail, court services and the 911 center that answers every emergency call for Milledgeville and the county alike. Deputies patrol the county answering calls and serve civil and criminal process; the communications center runs Georgia Crime Information Center checks for wanted persons alongside dispatch. Sheriff Bill Massee leads it.
Where the figure comes from
Checked 22 September 2026. Baldwin County Sheriff's Office, Careers: "Deputy Sheriff - Annual Salary: $47,987.49", duties "Patrols county answering calls" and "Serve civil & criminal papers". The same list gives "Detention Officers - Annual Salary: $39,762.99" and "911 Dispatcher - Annual Salary: $39,762.99". — open the source document
$47,987.49 is printed as an annual by the office and needs no conversion. THE DUTY LINE IS WHAT MAKES IT A PATROL FIGURE RATHER THAN A GENERAL ONE: the Deputy Sheriff entry is described as "Patrols county answering calls" and "Serve civil & criminal papers", so it is the road class, not a courthouse or transport post. NOTHING LOWER COMPETES WITH IT ON THE SWORN SIDE. The only two figures beneath it are the Detention Officer and the 911 Dispatcher, both at $39,762.99 - the jail and the communications center, neither of them a patrol class - and there is no cadet, recruit or non-certified deputy line anywhere on the page. THE REQUIREMENTS CARRY NO CERTIFICATION CONDITION AT ALL: a high school diploma or equivalent and a valid driver's license, plus the selection steps - application and waiver, background and driving history, an interview with the Sheriff, an informal interview with supervisors, a psychological test, a physical agility test, a polygraph and a medical exam. So Baldwin hires uncertified and certifies afterwards, and academy status never touches the rate, which is the standing test. NO EXPERIENCE QUALIFIER IS STATED EITHER - the page does not say the salary varies with prior service, unlike Habersham or Fayette - so this is a flat entry figure. Excluded: nothing is offered beside the salary on this page.
Entry-level base salary only. Overtime, bonuses, education incentives, shift
differentials, locality pay and lateral rates are excluded, so most officers earn more
than this.
