Churchill County Sheriff's Office entry pay

What this agency pays a new officer to start, and how that compares with the rest of the country.

Entry pay onlyEvery salary here is what an officer is paid on day one, out of the academy — base pay on a 40-hour week, with no overtime, shift differential, specialty or education pay counted. Nobody stays on it.

Churchill County Sheriff's Office starts at $65,312 a year — about $31.40 an hour on a 2,080-hour year, before overtime. That is $1,373 below the median of the 2,288 agencies on this list, and $1,752 above the median for county agencies.

How big the department isChurchill County Sheriff's Office reported 40 sworn officers and 9 civilian staff to the FBI for 2025.No rate is shown: this agency does not police a single population the FBI publishes a figure for. Reporting to the FBI is voluntary, so a count can reflect a partial return as easily as a small agency, and the FBI asks that agencies not be compared on staffing. What Churchill County says about itself

The Churchill County Sheriff's Office's mission is to provide effective and efficient law enforcement and public safety services to the residents and visitors of Churchill County.

What Churchill County does

The Churchill County Sheriff's Office polices the Lahontan Valley of west-central Nevada from Fallon, the county seat, across roughly 5,000 square miles of high desert that includes the Fallon Naval Air Station ranges. It works in two divisions - an Operations Division covering patrol and investigations and a Support Division running the detention facility and civil process - and also handles concealed firearm permits and crime prevention programmes.

Where the figure comes from

Checked 22 September 2026. Churchill County Sheriff's Office Wage Tables, Exhibit A, inside the County's FY 2026-27 Pay Table Workbook: under Deputy Association, Year 2 - Fiscal Year 26/27, the row "Deputy 6200" reads Step 1 hourly 31.40, annual 65,312.00. — open the source document
$65,312 is the County's OWN annual figure for Deputy Step 1 in the current fiscal year and no arithmetic has been applied to it. DEPUTY AND DETENTION ARE PRICED SEPARATELY IN THE SAME UNIT: the Deputy Association block carries Detention 6100 at $30.44 an hour, Deputy 6200 at $31.40 and Corporal 6300 at $34.14, with the Sergeant's Association priced separately at $38.91. Detention is custody and is not the figure. No recruit, cadet, trainee or probationary class appears anywhere in the block. THE TABLE DELETES ITS BOTTOM STEP EACH YEAR, WHICH IS WHY THE RISE LOOKS BIGGER THAN THE COLA. Year 1 (FY 25/26) prices Deputy Step 1 at $30.01 and Step 2 at $30.78; Year 2 is headed "Table Reflects a 2% Increase" and "(2% COLA)" yet shows Step 1 at $31.40, which is $30.78 x 1.02 - Year 1's SECOND step, uprated. Year 3 (FY 27/28) confirms the pattern: it is headed "Table Reflects a 0% Increase over FY 26-27 Paytables and Step 1 is" deleted, and every figure in it is the Year 2 table moved one column left. So the scale is being compressed from the bottom, not simply uprated, and comparing Step 1 to Step 1 across years overstates the raise. Year 1 was headed "Table Reflects a 5% Increase" made up of "4.375% PERS and 0.6..." per cent COLA. Excluded from the figure: Steps 2 to 6, which reach $35.51; Corporal and Sergeant; and the Detention line. THE WORKBOOK IS THE COUNTY'S OWN AND IS DATED ON ITS FACE - the job-title listing inside it is headed "Job Titles with Ranges (Effective July 6, 2026)" - but it is published as a scanned image with no text layer, so the figures were read from the rendered page.
Entry-level base salary only. Overtime, bonuses, education incentives, shift differentials, locality pay and lateral rates are excluded, so most officers earn more than this.
