Fellsmere Police Department entry pay
What this agency pays a new officer to start, and how that compares with the rest of the country.
Entry pay onlyEvery salary here is what an officer is paid on day one, out of the academy — base pay on a 40-hour week, with no overtime, shift differential, specialty or education pay counted. Nobody stays on it.
Fellsmere Police Department starts at $42,500 a year — about $20.43 an hour on a 2,080-hour year, before overtime. That is $24,185 below the median of the 2,288 agencies on this list, and $25,640 below the median for municipal agencies.
Cost of livingPrices in Florida run about 3% above the national average, so this is worth roughly $41,097 somewhere at average prices — $1,403 less than the headline figure. Most of that is rent, at 122 against a national average of 100, where goods are 98. Based on state-wide price levels, because this agency is not tied to a single metro area, from the U.S. Bureau of Economic Analysis, 2024. The salary above is what the employer publishes; this line is our arithmetic on it, and nothing on this site is ranked on it.
How big the department isFellsmere Police Department reported 9 sworn officers and 1 civilian staff to the FBI for 2025. That is 1.8 officers per 1,000 residents, over a population of 5,078.A rate is only meaningful for a city department, where the population served is the city’s own. Reporting to the FBI is voluntary, so a count can reflect a partial return as easily as a small agency, and the FBI asks that agencies not be compared on staffing. What Fellsmere says about itself
Protect our community from harm, assist those in need of service, and help bring justice to victims.
What Fellsmere does
The Fellsmere Police Department is the municipal force for the City of Fellsmere in Indian River County, a city of about 4,800 spread across 58 square miles of former farmland west of Sebastian, and the first place in Florida where a woman legally cast a ballot, in 1915. The department works to values of integrity, respect, honesty and professionalism adopted with its mission in 2013, is staffed around the clock across four shifts with a detective and a reserve unit, and runs community events including a Cops and Bobbers fishing day for local children.
Shifts at Fellsmere
The City's own council workshop presentation sets out the roster: the department is staffed 24 hours a day, seven days a week across Alpha 1, Alpha 2, Bravo 1 and Bravo 2 shifts; the chief, lieutenant and detective work Monday to Friday days; patrol officers work overlapping twelve-hour shifts; and one officer covers days at weekends and on holidays.
Overlapping twelve-hour shifts across four squads mean your hours do not line up with anyone else's, and the single weekend day post moves around the roster. BlueShifts holds your own shift rather than a generic pattern, and shares the days you are actually free with the people who need them.
