Midway Police Department entry pay

What this agency pays a new officer to start, and how that compares with the rest of the country.

Entry pay onlyEvery salary here is what an officer is paid on day one, out of the academy — base pay on a 40-hour week, with no overtime, shift differential, specialty or education pay counted. Nobody stays on it.

Midway Police Department starts at $42,500 a year — about $20.43 an hour on a 2,080-hour year, before overtime. That is $24,185 below the median of the 2,288 agencies on this list, and $25,640 below the median for municipal agencies.

Cost of livingPrices in Florida run about 3% above the national average, so this is worth roughly $41,097 somewhere at average prices — $1,403 less than the headline figure. Most of that is rent, at 122 against a national average of 100, where goods are 98. Based on state-wide price levels, because this agency is not tied to a single metro area, from the U.S. Bureau of Economic Analysis, 2024. The salary above is what the employer publishes; this line is our arithmetic on it, and nothing on this site is ranked on it.

How big the department isMidway Police Department reported 7 sworn officers and 1 civilian staff to the FBI for 2025. That is 2.0 officers per 1,000 residents, over a population of 3,472.A rate is only meaningful for a city department, where the population served is the city’s own. Reporting to the FBI is voluntary, so a count can reflect a partial return as easily as a small agency, and the FBI asks that agencies not be compared on staffing. What Midway says about itself

MISSION STATEMENT: To protect the lives of all citizens while ensuring fair, firm, and consistent community policing strategies while ensuring protection and order for the citizens of Midway.

What Midway does

The Midway Police Department is the municipal force for the City of Midway in Gadsden County, a city of about 3,540 on US 90 between Tallahassee and Quincy whose motto is A City of Progress and Possibilities. It opened in May 2011, when the city decided to establish its own department for the first time, and now runs a law enforcement division under a lieutenant covering patrol, a traffic enforcement unit, fleet management, training and investigations, with officers on duty around the clock and its own communications center.

Shifts at Midway

What the agency publishes

The department's own divisions page states that patrol is staffed by two sergeants and eleven police officers responsible for a 24/7/365 shift rotation, and that patrol has two squads, Alpha and Bravo.

Two squads covering every hour of the year means the rotation, not the calendar, decides which weekends are yours. BlueShifts holds the pattern and shows the months ahead at a glance.
