The City sponsors non-certified recruits through academy and certification, after which they are promoted to Police Officer; current Florida-certified Police Officer starting salary is $56,292 annually. Recruit pay is excluded MEASURE RE-EXAMINED 13 SEPTEMBER 2026 AND THE FIGURE IS CONFIRMED, BUT FOR A DIFFERENT REASON THAN THE ONE ORIGINALLY WRITTEN. The old note justified excluding recruit pay because recruits are later 'promoted to Police Officer'. That reasoning would have been WRONG under this site's own entry-pay test, which says academy certification NEVER disqualifies and the ONLY disqualifier is prior sworn service - by that test a lower sponsored-recruit rate would normally be the day-one figure, as it is at Waco (Recruit $32.89 rather than Commissioned $38.28) and at Honolulu (Metropolitan Police Recruit rather than Metropolitan Police Officer). WHAT MAKES PALM BAY DIFFERENT IS THAT THE CERTIFIED POLICE OFFICER CLASS IS ITSELF OPEN TO PEOPLE WITH NO PRIOR SWORN SERVICE. The City's Police Officer posting accepts applicants who are merely 'accepted into, currently attending or completed' a Florida academy, or even 'in process of enrollment', or who simply hold a conditional offer from the department - certification must follow within six weeks of academy graduation. So an applicant who has never been a sworn officer anywhere can be hired directly into the $56,292 class. At Waco and Honolulu the recruit class was the compulsory door; here it is not. THE NON-CERTIFIED RECRUIT CLASS IS A SPONSORSHIP ROUTE, NOT THE ENTRY CLASS: the City pays academy tuition and the recruit repays it pro rata if they leave within three years. It is an alternative funding arrangement for people who cannot self-fund the academy, running in parallel with the Police Officer class rather than beneath it. TWO DATED POINTS RECORDED: the same Police Officer posting carried $53,612 when opened 8 August 2025 and $56,292 when opened 20 April 2026, a 5.0 per cent rise. NO CONTRACT CHART IS BUILT FROM THEM - both are job postings, and the standing rule takes dated scale points only from a CBA, MOA or adopted pay plan. The posting names the route to real points: the position is covered by the FOP Florida State Lodge Police Officers collective bargaining agreement, which is where a proper dated series would come from. CHECKED DATE LEFT AT 30 AUGUST, same reason: the measure reasoning was corrected, not the source. The City's own site still publishes no figure.
Entry-level base salary only. Overtime, bonuses, education incentives, shift differentials, locality pay and lateral rates are excluded, so most officers earn more than this.
