Perry Police Department entry pay

What this agency pays a new officer to start, and how that compares with the rest of the country.

Entry pay onlyEvery salary here is what an officer is paid on day one, out of the academy — base pay on a 40-hour week, with no overtime, shift differential, specialty or education pay counted. Nobody stays on it.

Perry Police Department starts at $51,418 a year — about $24.72 an hour on a 2,080-hour year, before overtime. That is $15,267 below the median of the 2,288 agencies on this list, and $16,722 below the median for municipal agencies.

Cost of livingPrices in Georgia run about 4% below the national average, so this goes about as far as $53,397 would somewhere at average prices — $1,979 more than the headline figure. Most of that is rent, at 89 against a national average of 100, where goods are 99. Based on state-wide price levels, because this agency is not tied to a single metro area, from the U.S. Bureau of Economic Analysis, 2024. The salary above is what the employer publishes; this line is our arithmetic on it, and nothing on this site is ranked on it.

How big the department isPerry Police Department reported 49 sworn officers and 6 civilian staff to the FBI for 2025. That is 1.9 officers per 1,000 residents, over a population of 25,866.A rate is only meaningful for a city department, where the population served is the city’s own. Reporting to the FBI is voluntary, so a count can reflect a partial return as easily as a small agency, and the FBI asks that agencies not be compared on staffing. What Perry says about itself

The Perry Police Department's mission is to provide quality service in partnership with our community which promotes safe and secure neighborhoods.

What Perry does

The Perry Police Department is the municipal force for the City of Perry in Houston County, Georgia, working from 1207 Washington Street. It has three divisions - Patrol, Criminal Investigations and Support Services - and the patrol division responds to every 911 call from citizens. The City says all Perry officers are POST certified, having completed twenty weeks of basic mandate training.

Where the figure comes from

Checked 23 September 2026. City of Perry, Police Department page: "Mandated (certified) | $51,417.60". The City's Police Officer announcement 25-14 (open 7/2/2025 until filled) gives the same rate by the hour: "Police Officer Trainee: $21.63", "Police Officer I: $24.72", Police Officer I requiring "POST basic mandate certification". — open the source document
$51,417.60 is printed by the City itself as the annual for a certified (mandated) officer, and it is $24.72 an hour - the Police Officer I rate in announcement 25-14 - times 2,080 hours, so the City has done the conversion and none is needed here. THE TRAINEE RATE IS NOT THE ENTRY RATE: $21.63 an hour is paid while a trainee completes the 20-week POST academy, and certification alone is what makes a Police Officer I, the post-academy class taken here. The announcement asks for no prior service; compensation above the base for certified candidates depends on experience and education. Excluded: experience and education pay, overtime and benefits.
Entry-level base salary only. Overtime, bonuses, education incentives, shift differentials, locality pay and lateral rates are excluded, so most officers earn more than this.
