Pickens County Sheriff's Office entry pay

What this agency pays a new officer to start, and how that compares with the rest of the country.

Entry pay onlyEvery salary here is what an officer is paid on day one, out of the academy — base pay on a 40-hour week, with no overtime, shift differential, specialty or education pay counted. Nobody stays on it.

Pickens County Sheriff's Office starts at $51,661 a year — about $24.84 an hour on a 2,080-hour year, before overtime. That is $15,024 below the median of the 2,288 agencies on this list, and $11,899 below the median for county agencies.

Cost of livingPrices in Georgia run about 4% below the national average, so this goes about as far as $53,650 would somewhere at average prices — $1,989 more than the headline figure. Most of that is rent, at 89 against a national average of 100, where goods are 99. Based on state-wide price levels, because this agency is not tied to a single metro area, from the U.S. Bureau of Economic Analysis, 2024. The salary above is what the employer publishes; this line is our arithmetic on it, and nothing on this site is ranked on it.

How big the department isPickens County Sheriff's Office reported 73 sworn officers and 29 civilian staff to the FBI for 2025.No rate is shown: this agency does not police a single population the FBI publishes a figure for. Reporting to the FBI is voluntary, so a count can reflect a partial return as easily as a small agency, and the FBI asks that agencies not be compared on staffing. What Pickens County does

The Pickens County Sheriff's Office serves Pickens County, Georgia, in the north Georgia mountains, from 2985 Camp Road in Jasper. The Office describes itself as an agency of 100 employees serving the 33,000 people of the county across its 233 square miles. It runs Uniform Patrol, the Adult Detention Center, Campus Law Enforcement, Administration, Court Services, Criminal Investigations, the Cherokee Multi-Agency Narcotics Squad, Training, SWAT, a Special Response Team and a K-9 Unit. It prices two starting salaries, one for uncertified and one for already-certified deputies, and separately values its sixteen paid holidays at $2,956 a year.

Where the figure comes from

Checked 20 September 2026. Pickens Sheriff's Office Career — Starting Salary: "Deputy Sheriff Level 1 (Uncertified) $51,661 annual" — open the source document
$51,661 is the Office's own annual base figure and no arithmetic has been applied to it. The page is titled Starting Salary and gives two starting salaries side by side - Deputy Sheriff Level 1 (Uncertified) $51,661, and Deputy Sheriff Level 2 (Certified) $57,453 - so the figures are what a candidate STARTS at according to what they arrive holding. The uncertified figure is the one taken: a candidate with no prior sworn service arrives uncertified. Excluded from the figure: the sixteen paid holidays the Office prices separately at $2,956, which it adds to reach a stated total annual of $54,617; the holiday total is not base pay and is not used. OPEN AND RECORDED RATHER THAN RESOLVED - THIS IS THE WEAKNESS IN THIS ROW: the Office nowhere says whether a Level 1 deputy moves to Level 2 pay on completing the Georgia POST academy, or whether Level 2 is reached only by arriving certified. If the former, $57,453 is the post-academy rate and would supersede this figure, the same reading already applied to Rutland City, South Burlington and Brandon. The careers site's hiring-process and benefits pages do not say, and the benefits page 404s. NEXT DOCUMENT: the Pickens County pay plan or the Sheriff's Office policy on certification pay. NAME TRAP, AND IT NEARLY COST A ROW: pickenssheriffcareers.com is Pickens County GEORGIA - 'the gateway to the North Georgia Mountains' - and NOT Pickens County, South Carolina, which is a separate sheriff's office with 161 sworn and is still open.
Entry-level base salary only. Overtime, bonuses, education incentives, shift differentials, locality pay and lateral rates are excluded, so most officers earn more than this.
