Stevens County Sheriff's Office entry pay
What this agency pays a new officer to start, and how that compares with the rest of the country.
Entry pay onlyEvery salary here is what an officer is paid on day one, out of the academy — base pay on a 40-hour week, with no overtime, shift differential, specialty or education pay counted. Nobody stays on it.
Stevens County Sheriff's Office starts at $74,797 a year — about $35.96 an hour on a 2,080-hour year, before overtime. That is $8,112 above the median of the 2,288 agencies on this list, and $11,237 above the median for county agencies.
Cost of livingPrices in Washington run about 7% above the national average, so this is worth roughly $69,895 somewhere at average prices — $4,902 less than the headline figure. Most of that is rent, at 126 against a national average of 100, where goods are 104. Based on state-wide price levels, because this agency is not tied to a single metro area, from the U.S. Bureau of Economic Analysis, 2024. The salary above is what the employer publishes; this line is our arithmetic on it, and nothing on this site is ranked on it.
How big the department isStevens County Sheriff's Office reported 32 sworn officers and 30 civilian staff to the FBI for 2025.No rate is shown: this agency does not police a single population the FBI publishes a figure for. Reporting to the FBI is voluntary, so a count can reflect a partial return as easily as a small agency, and the FBI asks that agencies not be compared on staffing. What Stevens County says about itself
The Stevens County Sheriff's Office will safeguard the lives, property and constitutional rights of our citizens through honest, ethical and professional service and enforcement to our community.
What Stevens County does
The Stevens County Sheriff's Office polices the forested northeast corner of Washington from Colville, along the Columbia and the Canadian border, running uniformed patrol, investigations, civil process, court security, search and rescue, the county jail and 911 dispatch across a county of some 2,500 square miles. Its deputies are represented by Teamsters Local 690 on a scale that opens with a probationary rate and then runs seven deputy steps, with detective and sergeant blocks above.
Where the figure comes from
Checked 22 September 2026. Stevens County / Teamsters Local 690 collective bargaining agreement for Deputies, Detectives, Corporals & Sergeants, 1 January 2024 - 31 December 2027, Appendix "B": the row "Probation" reads 31.07, 33.25, 34.57, 35.96, 37.40 across the columns 2023, 2024, 2025, 2026, 2027. The 2026 rate of $35.96 an hour annualises to $74,796.80 at 2,080 hours. — open the source document
$74,796.80 is $35.96 an hour, the County's 2026 rate, multiplied by 2,080 hours; Article 6 is headed "JOB CLASSIFICATIONS/BASE HOURLY RATES" and points to Appendix B, so the table is hourly and the annual figure is mine, not the County's. THE ROW IS CALLED "PROBATION" AND IT IS THE ENTRY DEPUTY, NOT A TRAINEE CLASS. It sits inside the deputies' own wage appendix, above it run Deputy Steps 1 to 7, and it took the same 7% rise in 2024 that the deputy steps took, against 8% for detectives and 9% for sergeants. Article 7 puts every new hire on probation "from date of hire through twelve (12) continuous months after the completion of the academy", so the rate covers the academy and the first year on the road, and academy attendance does not disqualify it. WHAT PROVES IT IS THE ENTRY RATE IS APPENDIX D: a lateral hire with one full year as a fully commissioned officer is placed at Step 1, two years at Step 2, and so on to Step 5 - so the steps are priced by prior sworn service and Probation is what is left for someone with none. Excluded from the figure: Deputy Steps 1 to 7, which run to $42.99 in 2026; Detective and Sergeant, which are separate blocks; and the yearly instructor stipends in Appendix B, $1,000 for a Field Training Officer down to $250 for an EVOC or Taser instructor, only one of which may be drawn. THE STANDALONE WAGE SHEET SAYS THE SAME THING: the County publishes the identical table on its Salaries & Wages page as "2024-2027 Deputies, Detectives & Sergeants (Sheriff Teamsters)" at stevenscountywa.gov/document/34974, with the percentage rises written in the margin - 7%, 8% and 9% in 2024 and 4% in each of 2025, 2026 and 2027. A SUMMARISING FETCH OF THE WAGE SHEET READ "Probation" AS A PROBATION OFFICER and the row was nearly lost to it; the CBA settles it, because a Probation Officer would not be in the Sheriff's deputies' bargaining unit and would not be priced against Deputy Step 1.
Entry-level base salary only. Overtime, bonuses, education incentives, shift
differentials, locality pay and lateral rates are excluded, so most officers earn more
than this.
