Stillwater Police Department entry pay
What this agency pays a new officer to start, and how that compares with the rest of the country.
Entry pay onlyEvery salary here is what an officer is paid on day one, out of the academy — base pay on a 40-hour week, with no overtime, shift differential, specialty or education pay counted. Nobody stays on it.
Stillwater Police Department starts at $59,446 a year — about $28.58 an hour on a 2,080-hour year, before overtime. That is $7,238 below the median of the 2,288 agencies on this list, and $8,694 below the median for municipal agencies.
Cost of livingPrices in Oklahoma run about 12% below the national average, so this goes about as far as $67,673 would somewhere at average prices — $8,227 more than the headline figure. Most of that is rent, at 63 against a national average of 100, where goods are 94. Based on state-wide price levels, because this agency is not tied to a single metro area, from the U.S. Bureau of Economic Analysis, 2024. The salary above is what the employer publishes; this line is our arithmetic on it, and nothing on this site is ranked on it.
How big the department isStillwater Police Department reported 84 sworn officers and 44 civilian staff to the FBI for 2025. That is 1.7 officers per 1,000 residents, over a population of 50,585.A rate is only meaningful for a city department, where the population served is the city’s own. Reporting to the FBI is voluntary, so a count can reflect a partial return as easily as a small agency, and the FBI asks that agencies not be compared on staffing. What Stillwater says about itself
A strong community-policing philosophy guides the efforts of the department as officers work with partners in the community to identify and solve problems.
What Stillwater does
The Stillwater Police Department polices Stillwater, Oklahoma - a college town, home to Oklahoma State University - from 723 South Lewis, in the east wing of the Municipal Building the department occupied until 2001. It runs 80 sworn officers and 45 civilian support employees providing round-the-clock police services, with the Patrol Division, the Central Communications Division and the Detention Center all operating 24/7 alongside a Training Division. Its stated mission is to protect life, liberty and property and preserve the peace in the City of Stillwater. New officers attend a non-residential academy of roughly 27 weeks and are paid employees throughout.
Where the figure comes from
Checked 20 September 2026. City of Stillwater, Join the Stillwater Police Department: "Starting Salary Range: $59, 446.40- $63,003.20 (based on experience)" — open the source document
$59,446.40 is the bottom of the City's own published starting band and no arithmetic has been applied to it. The band is expressly qualified 'based on experience', which is what fixes the bottom as the no-experience rate rather than a range minimum floating free of any step. Trainee class: NOT PRICED - the City names no separate cadet, recruit or academy wage and states instead that applicants are paid employees while attending the academy, which runs approximately 27 weeks and is non-residential, so the same starting band covers the academy year. Prior sworn service is therefore not required. $63,003.20 is the top of the starting band and is a ceiling on the entry placement, not a step. THE FIGURE CARRIES NO EFFECTIVE DATE. NEXT DOCUMENT: the City of Stillwater pay plan or the annual budget, either of which would date this band; the City posts numbered job bulletins (82-26 Police Officer) that may also date it.
Entry-level base salary only. Overtime, bonuses, education incentives, shift
differentials, locality pay and lateral rates are excluded, so most officers earn more
than this.
