Bixby Police Department entry pay

What this agency pays a new officer to start, and how that compares with the rest of the country.

Entry pay onlyEvery salary here is what an officer is paid on day one, out of the academy — base pay on a 40-hour week, with no overtime, shift differential, specialty or education pay counted. Nobody stays on it.

Bixby Police Department starts at $42,750 a year — about $20.55 an hour on a 2,080-hour year, before overtime. That is $23,935 below the median of the 2,288 agencies on this list, and $25,390 below the median for municipal agencies.

Cost of livingPrices in Oklahoma run about 12% below the national average, so this goes about as far as $48,666 would somewhere at average prices — $5,916 more than the headline figure. Most of that is rent, at 63 against a national average of 100, where goods are 94. Based on state-wide price levels, because this agency is not tied to a single metro area, from the U.S. Bureau of Economic Analysis, 2024. The salary above is what the employer publishes; this line is our arithmetic on it, and nothing on this site is ranked on it.

How big the department isBixby Police Department reported 42 sworn officers and 15 civilian staff to the FBI for 2025. That is 1.3 officers per 1,000 residents, over a population of 32,529.A rate is only meaningful for a city department, where the population served is the city’s own. Reporting to the FBI is voluntary, so a count can reflect a partial return as easily as a small agency, and the FBI asks that agencies not be compared on staffing. What Bixby says about itself

It is the mission of the Bixby Police Department to safeguard the lives and property of the people that we serve while enhancing the quality of life of our citizens.

What Bixby does

The Bixby Police Department serves the city of Bixby, Oklahoma, a suburb on the southern edge of the Tulsa metropolitan area. New commissioned officers are hired at a starting rate and move up on completing the Oklahoma Council of Law Enforcement Education and Training academy and the Department's own field training programme; applicants must hold at least 60 college credit hours from an accredited institution. The Department runs patrol alongside its other police services from its own station, and publishes its commissioned and non-commissioned employment routes separately.

Where the figure comes from

Checked 20 September 2026. Bixby Police Department, Commissioned Officer: "Pay raises to $42,750 ($20.55 per hour) to after successful completion of Oklahoma Council of Law Enforcement Education and Training Academy (CLEET) and Bixby Police Field Training Program." — open the source document
$42,750 is the Department's own annual figure and no arithmetic has been applied to it; the Department prints the hourly equivalent, $20.55, beside it. The Department prices the rank twice in consecutive sentences: 'Starting Salary is $41,500 ($19.95 per hour) plus Competitive Benefits Package' and then 'Pay raises to $42,750 ($20.55 per hour) to after successful completion of Oklahoma Council of Law Enforcement Education and Training Academy (CLEET) and Bixby Police Field Training Program.' The $41,500 is the pre-academy rate and is NOT used; $42,750 is the rate on completing CLEET and field training, which is the post-academy sworn figure and the measure - the same reading applied to West Virginia State Police, Knoxville, Rutland City and Brandon. Prior sworn service is not required: CLEET is the entry route the Department describes, and it prices no separate lateral or already-certified rate. Applicants must hold 60 credit hours from an accredited college. THE FIGURE CARRIES NO EFFECTIVE DATE. NEXT DOCUMENT: the City of Bixby pay plan or adopted budget. NAME TRAP: Bixby is a Tulsa-area suburb in Oklahoma; do not confuse it with the Bixby Knolls district of Long Beach, California.
Entry-level base salary only. Overtime, bonuses, education incentives, shift differentials, locality pay and lateral rates are excluded, so most officers earn more than this.
