Glynn County Police Department entry pay
What this agency pays a new officer to start, and how that compares with the rest of the country.
Entry pay onlyEvery salary here is what an officer is paid on day one, out of the academy — base pay on a 40-hour week, with no overtime, shift differential, specialty or education pay counted. Nobody stays on it.
Glynn County Police Department starts at $53,560 a year — about $25.75 an hour on a 2,080-hour year, before overtime. That is $13,125 below the median of the 2,288 agencies on this list, and $14,580 below the median for municipal agencies.
Cost of livingPrices in Georgia run about 4% below the national average, so this goes about as far as $55,622 would somewhere at average prices — $2,062 more than the headline figure. Most of that is rent, at 89 against a national average of 100, where goods are 99. Based on state-wide price levels, because this agency is not tied to a single metro area, from the U.S. Bureau of Economic Analysis, 2024. The salary above is what the employer publishes; this line is our arithmetic on it, and nothing on this site is ranked on it.
How big the department isGlynn County Police Department reported 91 sworn officers and 13 civilian staff to the FBI for 2025.No rate is shown: this agency does not police a single population the FBI publishes a figure for. Reporting to the FBI is voluntary, so a count can reflect a partial return as easily as a small agency, and the FBI asks that agencies not be compared on staffing. What Glynn County says about itself
The Glynn County Police Department is a full-service, progressive law enforcement agency serving approximately 88,000 residents of Glynn County.
What Glynn County does
The Glynn County Police Department polices the Georgia coast around Brunswick and the Golden Isles - St Simons, Sea Island and Jekyll - serving about 88,000 residents from Carl Alexander Way. It is the county's patrol agency, working alongside a separate Glynn County Sheriff's Office, and holds state certification through the Georgia Association of Chiefs of Police. It takes recruits certified or not: an uncertified officer is hired, must pass the Georgia P.O.S.T. physical agility test within thirty days of entering the academy and hold certification within twelve months of employment, and completes the departmental field training programme after that. The department runs a ride-along programme and a community outreach unit, and publishes its Flock camera portal openly.
Where the figure comes from
Checked 22 September 2026. Glynn County Police Department, Join the Glynn County Police Department, under Compensation - Starting Salary: "$52,000 for non-certified officers" and "$53,560 - $69,883 for certified officers (based on qualifications)". — open the source document
$53,560 is printed as an annual by the department and is the floor of the CERTIFIED band. THE NON-CERTIFIED LINE ABOVE IT IS A PRE-ACADEMY WAGE AND IS BARRED, and the department's own qualification list is what proves it: "Must obtain GA P.O.S.T. Certification within 12 months of employment (if not already certified)" and "Non-certified applicants must pass GA P.O.S.T. PAT within 30 days of entering the academy". So what ends the $52,000 is the academy, not service - the disqualifier the standing rule names, the same test that skipped Lincoln County NV's recruit rate and Douglas County GA's Deputy Sheriff Recruit band. The gap is small, 3%, which is the sort of nominal differential that would ordinarily point the other way; the labels settle it, because these are not two steps of one grade but two named classes, non-certified and certified. THE FLOOR OF THE CERTIFIED BAND IS THE NO-EXPERIENCE POINT BECAUSE THE DEPARTMENT SAYS WHAT MOVES YOU UP IT - "(based on qualifications)" - and the qualifications that earn money are itemised separately as additions rather than as placement: an education stipend of up to $3,000 a year and $1,500 bilingual pay. Also excluded, and this one is large: a $10,000 hiring bonus, plus a $2.50 an hour night shift differential, $5,000 a year of tuition reimbursement, the take-home vehicle, up to 6% county pension contribution and paid FOP legal defense and POAB dues. NOTE WHICH AGENCY THIS IS. Glynn County runs a county POLICE department for patrol and a separate SHERIFF'S OFFICE; this row is the police department, and the sheriff's office is not priced here.
Entry-level base salary only. Overtime, bonuses, education incentives, shift
differentials, locality pay and lateral rates are excluded, so most officers earn more
than this.
