The Greenfield Police Department serves a Hancock County city of about 25,000 east of Indianapolis with 44 officers, three civilian staff and a victim advocate placed through Alternatives, Inc. Its patrol division is commanded by a Road Captain and runs 28 officers across four squads - two day, two night - on twelve-hour shifts, day 6am to 6pm and night 6pm to 6am, with reserve officers working both. Alongside patrol it provides traffic and parking enforcement, D.A.R.E. instruction in Greenfield Central and St. Michael's schools, crime prevention training and handgun permit applications, runs three Belgian Malinois K-9 teams, and takes part in the Hancock County Joint Tactical Team.

Class: Police Officer, probationary. The City's own recruitment page states "Probationary pay of $65,815.98" and "Senior Patrolman (after 3 years) salary $72,747.34", so the probationary figure is the entry step of the same officer class and the senior rate is the ladder above it. Trainee class: NO - the department has no separate cadet grade; recruits attend the Indiana Law Enforcement Academy for 16 weeks and then about 240 hours of field training. Prior sworn service is NOT required: the page runs a lateral transfer programme with an abbreviated FTO separately, and states that pay rate and vacation reflect prior service dated from ILEA graduation, which is what proves the probationary figure is the no-experience step. Longevity is paid on top at $300 a year of service to a $6,000 maximum and is not in the base figure.
