Laredo Police Department entry pay

What this agency pays a new officer to start, and how that compares with the rest of the country.

Entry pay onlyEvery salary here is what an officer is paid on day one, out of the academy — base pay on a 40-hour week, with no overtime, shift differential, specialty or education pay counted. Nobody stays on it.

Laredo Police Department starts at $73,467 a year — about $35.32 an hour on a 2,080-hour year, before overtime. That is $5,077 above the median of the 1,681 agencies on this list, and $2,203 above the median for municipal agencies.

Cost of livingPrices in Texas run about 3% below the national average, so this goes about as far as $75,695 would somewhere at average prices — $2,228 more than the headline figure. That average hides a wide spread: utilities at 88, where goods are 98. Based on state-wide price levels, because this agency is not tied to a single metro area, from the U.S. Bureau of Economic Analysis, 2024. The salary above is what the employer publishes; this line is our arithmetic on it, and nothing on this site is ranked on it.

About Laredo

Laredo Police Department is the eighth-largest municipal force in Texas, with over 500 sworn officers and more than 80 civilian staff covering 111 square miles for about 261,000 residents on the U.S.-Mexico border beside the nation's largest inland port. Patrol is split into North, Central and South commands, each under its own command captain and divided into beats, alongside specialist motor, bike, park police and K-9 units

Where the figure comes from

Collective Bargaining Agreement between the City of Laredo and the Laredo Police Officers' Association, 1 Oct 2025 to 30 Sep 2026, executed 18 Sep 2025, Article 13.2 Wage Table. Patrol Officer, 0 thru 23 months — the entry step; the table's own footnote says a step 1 officer must complete 23 months from pinning to reach step II. Rate effective 1 April 2026: $35.32 an hour, $6,122.29 a month, $73,467.46 a year as printed in the table. Article 3.6 defines Base Pay as excluding education, certification, FTO, longevity, shift differential and assignment pay, so this is base only. Article 15.1 sets the hourly rate as annual salary over 2,080 hours.
Entry-level base salary only. Overtime, bonuses, education incentives, shift differentials, locality pay and lateral rates are excluded, so most officers earn more than this.

How this level compares

Where Laredo sits is partly about the agency and partly about which level of policing it belongs to. The three levels do not pay the same.
